This page provides instructions how to uninstall iQIYI.

What is iQIYI? If you have encountered Youku then you also know about iQIYI – the biggest chinese online video portal that provides services to Youtube for the Chinese-speaking community. According to Alexa it has a global rating of 371, which is quite impressive in its own right. Unfortunately the software platform that supports iQIYI can be very problematic, especially for people who are not native in chinese.

Indeed if iQIYI Video Ads was not the child of iQIYI we’d think it a classic for of PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). At least it certainly shares most of its characteristics. It is also possible to become a “proud” owner of it without ever installing it yourself. Thanks to its huge popularity it will often come bundled with the installers for other chinese – developed software and some of those programs can be amazingly good (GOM player is the author’s favorite media player as an example). Unfortunately iQIYI is not even in English and its optimization leaves much to be desired.

The two biggest problems with iQIYI is the huge amount of resources it drains. It is not uncommon to see spikes reaching 100% CPU usage, especially on some older dual core CPUs. iQIYI loads the following processes and they are responsible for the CPU issue: QiyiService.exe, QyBrowser.exe, QyClient.exe, and QyKernel.exe. Note that by default this PUP edits your windows program start up list, so these processes will load every time you reboot your computer and if your CPU is aging iQIYI may lead to impossibly long loading time.

The other major annoyance of iQIYI are the Ads. These Ads are displayed in Chinese and they can pop over ALL kind of internet pages as long as it remains installed on your computer. Having enormous Ads that block your entire screen is exasperating on its own, having these pages in Chinese just takes it on a hole different level of annoyance and it’s no wonder why most people want to get rid of iQIYI as soon as possible.

How to make sure you never again have iQIYI-like programs installed on your computer

As mentioned the most likely reason you had iQIYI installed is through some other form of software installer – most likely some Freeware or Shareware of chinese origin. There is no need to give on all chinese apps just yet, simply follow this simple rule. Whenever you install a program never use the Default installation option, use the Advanced instead. There is nothing complicated with that – simply click Next a few times and its the same. What you really win by using Advanced is that anything added to the installer that is not outright malicious in origin will be displayed as a bonus program and you have the option to opt out of it. Simply de-select anything you do not installed and proceed.

Lets talk about the removal of iQIYI now

Simply uninstalling iQIYI  from your control panel won’t be enough to get rid of it completely. Whether inadvertently (due to poor coding) or on purpose iQIYI leaves behind a number of registry entries and temporary files behind. It also works as an Add-on to your browser, so all traces of it need to be cleared from there as well. If you want to make sure no tracer of this annoying chinese software remain please proceed to our guide below.
