Uniq Data Captcha Virus

Uniq Data Captcha

If you’ve noticed an increase in the annoying advertisements in your Chrome, Firefox or Explorer, and if those ads interrupt your daily web browsing, the chances are you’ve been infected with Uniq Data Captcha. Uniq Data Captcha belongs to the browser hijacker application class, and although it is a relatively harmless piece of software, it may create a lot of nuisance.

The Uniq Data Captcha virus will display pop up ads and messages

Most people mistakenly think of the browser hijackers like Captcha-Bros, Coding Captcha as viruses or other type of malware, but we would like to assure you that this is not the case. The sole purpose of programs like Uniq Data Captcha is to flood your screen with advertisements of all kinds like banners, pop-ups, and redirect links that lead to different websites. In order to do that, the hijackers may often place some changes to the main search engine or the default homepage of the browser you mostly use. The aim of such changes is to get you to click on these advertisements, as this will generate pay-per-click income for the developers.

Although a software piece like UniqDataCaptcha is not malware, and should not be confused with harmful programs such as Trojans and Ransomware, we still do not recommend that you keep it in your machine. Not only because UniqDataCaptcha may interfere with your everyday browsing experience, but also because it has the potential to redirect you to various questionable web locations.

In the next lines, we will tell you more about how the browser hijacker operates, as well as about the issues that can be associated with it, and the methods to remove it. In our removal guide below, you will find comprehensive instructions on how to uninstall Uniq Data Captcha, and on how to eliminate its browser changes.

As noted above, it is not really recommended that you let a browser hijacker like Uniqdatacaptcha.top stay on your PC, as it has the potential to cause problems. First of all, Uniqdatacaptcha.top can slow down the performance of your machine, and even cause your browser to crash.

Such software can also trigger more irritating issues, or even take you to malicious websites, from which viruses like spyware or ransomware can be downloaded.

The browser hijacker is also known for collecting, and storing your browsing data – information such as your search queries, your history, and even favorite pages and bookmarks can be monitored by an app such as this one. All this information is collected, and analyzed in order to customize the ads streamed on your screen, and make the more relevant to things you may be interested in. Also, there is a fairly high chance of this data getting sold to third parties. The issues that may result from this may have quite serious consequences. Therefore, we recommend uninstalling Uniq Data Captcha, as this is the best thing you can do right now.

The easiest way to do that is automatically. For that, you will need a professional removal tool, like the one we’ve linked below. Professional software like this one can scan your entire computer, and quickly remove any potentially unwanted program, as well as other hidden threats such as viruses. Moreover, having a reliable security program is best for future system protection. Of course, there is also a manual method, which is described in the removal guide below. Whichever method you choose, make sure you pay attention to the removal process, and eliminate the program that disturbs you as soon as possible.

Remove Uniq Data Captcha Virus

To remove Uniq Data Captcha, you must perform a thorough clean-up of your computer:

  1. First, search the PC for a rogue program with which the hijacker may have been bundled and uninstall the program.
  2. Next, eliminate any processes that you determine may be linked to the hijacker.
  3. Thirdly, clean the Hosts file of the computer, the DNS settings, the Registry, and the startup items.
  4. To remove Uniq Data Captcha, be sure to also check your browsers and manually clean them from rogue components.

To gain a better understanding of the way the aforementioned steps should be performed, you should carefully read the detailed instructions below.

Detailed Uniq Data Captcha Removal Guide Step 1 Disconnect your computer from the Internet to make sure that Uniq Data Captcha doesn’t connect to its server, as this could make deleting the hijacker significantly more difficult.

Step 2

Search for Programs and Features in the Start Menu, select the icon that shows first in the results, and then try to find in the list of programs anything suspicious that has been installed a little before you noticed Uniq Data Captcha on your computer. If there’s a program that may have delivered the hijacker into your PC, uninstall it, making sure that you don’t allow the uninstallation manager to keep any data related to that program in the computer.

Step 3

Press the following keys (togehter) on your keyboard:

  • [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc]

Select Processes and look for anything named Uniq Data Captcha or something similar to this. If you don’t see such processes, then look for ones with suspicious and unfamiliar names, especially if they are consuming lots of CPU power and RAM memory.

Look up the name of any process that you don’t trust to see if there’s any information online about it being harmful. Also right-click the suspicious processes, enter their File Locations and scan the files saved there with this free malware scanner:

Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users.
This file is not matched with any known malware in the database. You can either do a full real-time scan of the file or skip it to upload a new file. Doing a full scan with 64 antivirus programs can take up to 3-4 minutes per file.

If any files in the location folders are found to be malicious, then the process itself must also malicious.

    Task Manager1

If it is confirmed that a given suspected process is rogue, end it and then delete its folder.

    Task Manager2

Step 4 Reboot the computer into Safe Mode – while in Safe Mode, Windows will prevent third-party programs from automatically launching non-essential processes, so this would hopefully prevent Uniq Data Captcha from starting any of its processes again.

Step 5 Type ncpa.cpl in the search box below the Start Menu, hit Enter, and find and right-click on the icon of the network that you connect to the most often. Open Properties from the context menu and find and select the following item from the shown list:
    • Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Click Properties and check the following two options if they aren’t enabled at the moment.
    • Obtain an IP address automatically
    • Obtain DNS server address automatically
Go to the Advanced settings page, then go to DNS, remove any IPs that may be in the list there, and click the OK button on every open window so that the changes you’ve just made would be saved.

Now go to the Start Menu again, type the next line, and press Enter:

    • msconfig

This will take you to System Configuration, where you must select Startup, look through the list for items you don’t recognize and/ or ones that have unknown developers and uncheck them. After that, select OK to make sure the changes are saved.

Finally, copy this next line of text, paste it in the Start Menu, and press the Enter key again – this will open a notepad file named Hosts.

    • notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/host

In that file, if you see IPs listed below Localhost, copy them and share them with us using the comments section on this page. If those IPs are from the hijacker, we will inform you that you must remove them from the file.

Step 6 Start the Registry Editor by searching for its executable – regedit.exe – in the Start Menu, and selecting it. TO open the Editor, you must first confirm that you’d like to allow it to make system changes – click Yes. Inside the Editor, click the Edit menu from the top and select the Find option. Next, type Uniq Data Captcha in the box, select Find Next, and delete the first Uniq Data Captcha items. Do another search for Uniq Data Captcha items, delete the next thing, and continue like this until the Registry has been cleaned and there are no more related items.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is regedit2-1.png

After that, check these next Registry directories in the left panel for questionable and odd-looking items.

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Random Directory
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main

If you find anything that seems to have a randomly-generated name that looks like this “2389ru2398ud982utg98ru249gh24r89“, tell us in the comments about it, and we will tell you if anything needs to be done.

Step 7 Right-click the main browser icon, click Properties > Shortcut, see if any text is written after “.exe” in Target and if there is, delete it and click OK. Now start that browser, open its menu (an icon in the top-right or top-left corner depending on the specific browser) and then open Extensions/Add-ons. If you are in Chrome, there should be a More Tools option – click it and then click Extensions. In the Extensions page, find anything that you think may be related to Uniq Data Captcha, disable it and then remove it from the browser.

Open Settings or Options from the browser menu.

Open the Privacy and Security settings section and then click Clear browsing data or Choose what to clear if you are using Microsoft Edge.

You must clear all data except your passwords, so put ticks in all other boxes and select Clear Data.

Repeat everything from this final step for all browsers that are on your computer.

If you are still having problems with Uniq Data Captcha Sometimes, more dangerous programs like Trojans or Rootkit viruses may be letting a hijacker such as Uniq Data Captcha stay in the system and/or re-install itself on it even after you’ve tried everything to remove it. In such situations, one option is to take the computer to a specialist who can fix it for you. A much quicker method, however, is to install a reliable anti-malware tool on your computer that can take care of both the hijacker and any other unwanted/malicious software that may be in the system. A tool we can highly recommend for such a task is the one that you will find linked in the guide on this page – you can ahead and try it out right now if you are interested.

    What is Uniq Data Captcha?

Uniq Data Captcha is a rogue browser add-on designed as an advertising tool capable of hijacking Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and other Windows browsers and swarming them with ads. Uniq Data Captcha is classified as a browser hijacker and experts recommend that it gets removed to keep the system safe. If you’ve noticed changes in any of the browsers on your computers, such as a replaced homepage or search engine or some new extensions that have been installed in the browser without your approval, you are most likely dealing with a browser hijacker such as Uniq Data Captcha. The main goal of Uniq Data Captcha and other software of its kind is to promote to a large number of users certain sites, software products, online services, and more through the display of obstructive banners, page redirects, and pop-ups. While technically it is not a virus, many users and even security experts refer to it as such due to the intrusive and aggressive behavior of the app. Its presence in the browser is typically associated with constant generation of promotional content as well as performance problems of the browser, but this is actually not the main issue regarding Uniq Data Captcha.

    Is Uniq Data Captcha dangerous?

Uniq Data Captcha is less dangerous than real viruses, Trojan Horses, Ransomware, or other advanced malware threats, but it’s also not a particularly safe program and should probably not be trusted. One thing that could make Uniq Data Captcha dangerous is that it may advertise to you unsafe content. Since most hijackers would promote mostly anything, regardless of how reliable or safe it is, there’s a serious chance that you may get exposed to sites and pages that contain phishing elements, disguised malware downloads, other browser hijackers, and more. Any user who has Uniq Data Captcha or another hijacker integrated with their browser is strongly advised to keep away from any ads, banners, pop-ups, page redirects, or other promotional content shown in the browser in order to avoid getting their computer exposed to danger. If you think (or know) that Uniq Data Captcha is in your browser, you should not delay the removal of this hijacker – the sooner you delete it from your PC, the better. It may also be a good idea to check your system and browsers for additional unwanted components and programs since hijackers oftentimes arrive bundled with other undesirable software.

How to remove Uniq Data Captcha?

To remove Uniq Data Captcha, you must first make sure that there aren’t any rogue programs installed on the computer. After that, you should clean any system settings introduced by the hijacker, and lastly, to remove Uniq Data Captcha, you must perform an exhaustive clean-up of your browsers. Step 1: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, search the list of program installs for any recently added program with which Uniq Data Captcha may have arrived in your computer and if you find anything like that, uninstall it. Step 2: See if you can find any rogue processes related to Uniq Data Captcha in the Task Manager’s Processes tab and if you do, go to their location folders, delete everything there, and then end the processes themselves. Step 3: Check the Startup items list and the Hosts file for anything added by Uniq Data Captcha, and delete what you may find. Also, restore any unauthorized changes made in the DNS settings. Step 4: Search the Registry (using the Registry Editor app) for hijacker items and delete any such items you may come across. Step 5: Delete unwanted/rogue extensions from every browser on the computer, then restore the changed homepage and/or search engine, and lastly clear the browser data.
