This page aims to help you remove VevoLocker Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any VevoLocker file can be recovered.

VevoLocker is one very dangerous computer threat. This malware behaves like a typical file-encrypting Ransomware and secretly locks all of your data with the help of a very complex algorithm. After that, it generates a ransom message, which message states that if you don’t pay a certain amount of money, all your information and files will remain encrypted forever and you will never be able to access them. If you want to save the files, you will have to pay for a decryption key, which only the hackers, who control the infection, can provide you with. As you can see, this is a pure blackmailing scheme, which relies on manipulations to extract money out of the infected computer users. Unfortunately counteracting this scheme and removing the Ransomware can challenge even an experienced security professional. However, there are some alternatives, which we would like to share with you in case you are looking for solutions, which can help you bypass the ransom payment.

In the next paragraphs, we have published some useful information about VevoLocker and the way it operates. Knowing the specifics of the infection can greatly help you handle it, so don’t miss the details that you will find below. In addition, our “How to remove” team has prepared a Removal Guide, which may eventually help you remove VevoLocker Ransomware and recover some of your files. We cannot promise you a full recovery though. Unfortunately, even paying ransom to the hackers cannot guarantee you that because, once you send them the money they want, the cyber criminals may simply disappear. There is absolutely nothing you could do if the hackers “forget” to send you a decryption key in return. Therefore, instead of fulfilling their ransom demands, what we will suggest you do is give a try to our free instructions and see how helpful they could be in your case. Don’t worry, following the steps will not harm your system if you complete them and in case that you have problems with any part of the guide, you can always use the professional VevoLocker Ransomware removal tool for assistance as well as ask us in the comments regarding whatever you are having problems with.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab. Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

What do you need to know about Ransomware?

Ransomware is a type of malware, which is specifically created to block the victim’s access to their files or to the screen of their device, and then demand a ransom in exchange for their liberation. There are several main categories of viruses, which work on the same principle. VevoLocker, in particular, falls under the Ransomware subcategory of cryptoviruses. The cryptoviruses are considered to be the most dreadful Ransomware infections and also the most difficult ones to handle. The reason is, they are very stealthy and tricky to detect and they usually use a very complex encoding algorithm to keep your files sealed. It is not always possible to reverse the secret encryption, which means that, in some cases, the encrypted files may not be liberated, even if the cryptovirus is removed. As a result, many victims may face a significant loss of data due to the attack of the Ransomware.

A major part of the infections usually happen thanks to Trojan horse contaminations. The criminals exploit the ability of the Trojans to secretly deliver another malware into the system and this way they manage to attack the computer without any visible symptoms. Other possible transmitters of VevoLocker could be different infected email attachments, spam messages, fake ads, misleading links and compromised web pages.

How can you deal with VevoLocker Ransomware?

As we just said above, you can get infected with VevoLocker in many different ways. As per some recent information, this Ransomware is spreading across the web space as a storm. Unfortunately, no one can be 100% protected against catching the infection. However, there are some general safety tips, which can minimize this chance. One of the most important measures you can take is to protect your PC with a reliable antivirus program. Also, update your OS to the latest security patches. Limit your interaction with sketchy web content, pop-ups, ads and spam and stick to reputed web locations. To protect your data, we advise you to back it up on a regular basis and keep the backup copies on an external drive or on a cloud (why not both?). In fact, if you have any backups now, you can use them to recover your files without paying a penny as a ransom. Just make sure that you first remove VevoLocker from your system with the help of the instructions below, otherwise, the moment you connect your backup source to the infected computer, the Ransomware may encrypt the data on it as well.
