What is Ransomware?

You have probably already heard about Ransomware in the news. This type of malware has recently gained huge popularity in criminal circles as one of the most effective blackmail tools. This type of cyber threat has been created with the sole idea to take the users’ files hostage and blackmail them to pay ransom. If your files have suddenly become inaccessible and a ransom message has appeared on your screen, then surely you’ve become one of the numerous victims of this malware. .x1881 Virus is a new cryptovirus of the Ransomware type which uses a very complex and almost unbreakable file encryption in order to lock your most valuable data (images, videos, documents, archives, etc.) It is very typical for this threat to apply some new file extensions to the affected data which cannot be recognized by any software. This way, it keeps it hostage until a fat amount of money is paid to release it.

How to Decrypt .x1881 Ransomware files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

If the guide doesn’t help, download the anti-virus program we recommended or try our free online virus scanner. Also, you can always ask us in the comments for help!

How does .x1881 Virus spread online?

Typically, most of the infections with Ransomware occur when the users interact with some sort of infected content. The hackers normally distribute their harmful viruses via spam messages, well camouflaged fake ads and pop-ups, exploit kits, malicious emails and infected attachments, free download links, torrents and illegal web pages. A preferred method to insert Ransomware inside the users’ system is the Trojan horse infection. Due to its ability to mask as seemingly harmless files and applications, the Trojan can easily trick the unsuspecting users to click on it and activate the hidden Ransomware. Once inside, the Ransomware can quickly infiltrate all the disks and apply its encryption to each and every file. In most of the cases, the antivirus may not detect it because the whole process goes unnoticed until the malware places its ransom notice on the victim’s computer.

Is there a way to decrypt the files without paying ransom?

Decrypting your files from the malicious encryption is possible only with the help of the right decryption key. The key for the decryption of the .x1881 encryption, however, is kept with the hackers that blackmail you. They will ask you for a fat amount of money (in Bitcoins) to send it to you. In the ransom notification that will appear on your screen right after the encryption process is completed, they will give you the exact instructions. The problem is that even if you strictly fulfill all of their ransom demands, you may still not receive the key or any decryption solution. They may threaten you to double the ransom, destroy the key or mess up your files just to make sure that you are scared enough to send them the money. Once they get what they want, they may simply disappear as typical crooks, leaving you without a solution. For this reason, you should be aware of their manipulative techniques and should not submit to them.

How can you deal with .x1881 Virus and its encryption?

We suggest you take a look at the alternatives in the removal guide below instead of paying the ransom as they are much safer and free options. What we will show you is basically how to detect and remove .x1881 from your system. The elimination of the Ransomware will make your PC safe and will let you proceed with some file-restoration options.

The only 100% sure method to recover all of your files is to get them back from a file backup. If you have developed this useful habit of keeping copies of your documents, images, videos, audios and other important data somewhere on an external drive or a cloud, once you remove .x1881 Ransomware, you can safely use them. If you don’t have backups, unfortunately, you may not be able to save much data. Still, we encourage you to give a try to the file-restoration instructions we suggested. If nothing helps, you may need to contact a Ransomware specialist or wait for some free decryptors of the .x1881 encryption. To prevent such infections in the future, you should ensure optimal system protection with a reliable antivirus program and well-maintained system.
