Yourmetshop

Yourmetshop is a recent example of an application from the browser hijacking class of software that seeks to generate income by bursting obstructive commercials through the screen of your web browser. In addition, Yourmetshop is often used to aggressively redirect the traffic of your searches to various ad-supported pages.

The Yourmetshop virus will display pop up ads and messages

The advertising materials that Yourmetshop shows on your screen are typically paid through pay-per-click and pay-per view online advertising models, thus, they come in numbers, shapes and sizes that are meant to grab your attention and to leave you with no option but to click on them. Every time you interact with some of the pop-ups, banners, redirect links and on-screen notifications, this generates a small income for the developers of the program.  Of course just one redirect or add click won’t make a huge revenue, but with Yourmetshop being installed on hundreds of browsers, the end profit may be substantial on a wider scale.

Unlike computer viruses and stealthy malware (such as Ransomware and Trojans) programs like Yourmetshop, Lookaside.fbsbx.comHutters.click are easy to detect. The most prominent symptoms that give the browser hijackers away include changes in the browser’s search engine, homepage modifications, new toolbars and buttons in the taskbar and automatic redirects to random ad-supported sites. When faced with the above-mentioned changes, however, most users typically have no idea why and how they have happened. This is because the hijacker doesn’t really ask for their permission to modify their browser’s settings in a direct and informed way. Most commonly, this software is attached inside the installer of some more user-friendly applications that the users willingly install on their computers.

The Yourmetshop Pop up

Commonly, programs like the Yourmetshop pop up are added as bonus components that can attach to their Chrome, Firefox, Edge or any other web browser. Many people, however, are not used to paying careful attention to what is inside their software installers, so this is how they end up with browser hijackers and similar potentially unwanted software on their machines.

Uninstalling a browser hijacker can be extremely challenging and stressful. Keeping such software on your machine, however, may lead to even more frustration. That’s why, we suggest you to take a look at the instructions in the removal guide below and make use of them instead of losing time and efforts every day to cope with the hundreds of auto-redirects, browser changes and pop-up ads that an app like Yourmetshop may spam you with.  By removing the hijacker, you will also gain full control of your favorite web browser and restore your preferred homepage, search engine and toolbars.

Unfortunately, having all the hijacker-related components removed can be a very challenging job, but it can surely be done if you carefully follow some steps. Besides, you may even prevent a random redirect to questionable web location or an accidental click on a misleading web ad that may deliver real viruses to your computer. That is why we urge you to take things into your own hands and uninstall the Yourmetshop app and reduce the chance of seeing your system compromised by a nasty ransomware, a Trojan or some other stealthy malware that uses malvertising as a means of distribution.

Remove Yourmetshop Pop up Virus

In some cases, the quick instructions that follow may be enough to remove Yourmetshop without too much hassle. You may want to give them a try before you dive deeper into the detailed removal guide below.

  1. Launch the browser that has been causing you issues and in its Settings, More Tools (or Add-ons in some browsers).
  2. Open the Extensions tab and seek extensions linked to Yourmetshop. Sometimes browser hijackers like this one tend to add helper extensions that facilitate their activity in the browser.
  3. Once you detect the Yourmetshop-related extensions, remove them. (in some browsers you may have to select the Trash Bin icon next to the extension)
  4. Look for other extensions that have been installed without your approval and remove them as well.

If Yourmetshop is still present on your browser and is still bothering you after you complete the instructions above, then you need to follow the detailed steps in our Yourmetshop removal guide which starts from here:

It is very important that you first Bookmark this page in order to get back to it quickly because, during some of the steps in the guide, you will have to quit your browser.

After you have done that, enable Safe Mode on your computer. This mode will prevent other processes from stopping you to remove Yourmetshop and will make its elimination easier.

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

Now, let’s begin the actual removal process of Yourmetshop. Start with using the CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combination to open the Task Manager. Once in, go to the second tab that says Processes (in Windows 10 and 8 it is called “Details” ).  There you will find a detailed list of the processes that are running on your PC. You will have to carefully look at them and try to locate the processes that are related to Yourmetshop and helping it run.

Once you are sure that you have found an Yourmetshop-related process, right click on it and choose the Open File Location option. The files found in that location should be scanned for malware. For your convenience, you can use the free online virus scanner on this page:

Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users.
This file is not matched with any known malware in the database. You can either do a full real-time scan of the file or skip it to upload a new file. Doing a full scan with 64 antivirus programs can take up to 3-4 minutes per file.

This scanner is based on VirusTotal's API. By submitting data to it, you agree to their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and to the sharing of your sample submission with the security community. Please do not submit files with personal information if you do not want them to be shared.

In case that the files that you scan get flagged as malicious, go back to the Processes tab and End the processes that are related to them. After that, delete the folder that contains the flagged files.

After you are done with ending the Yourmetshop-related processes and deleting the malicious files, press the Start and R keys on your keyboard together to open the Run box. In it,  type the following command: appwiz.cpl

Don’t forget to click the OK button to execute it. This will launch the Control Panel. Similarly to what you did in the Task Manager, you will have to search for questionable entries related to Yourmetshop and uninstall them if you detect any.

Open the System Configuration window by typing msconfig in the Windows search field and hit enter. This window will appear on your screen:

Click the Startup Tab and look at the Startup Items on the list and find the ones that are linked to Yourmetshop. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox before these items. Items that have “Unknown” Manufacturer or look questionable should also be disabled. Then, click OK.

Once you have completed the instructions in step 3, press together the Start and R keys on your keyboard  and  copy the following in the text field of the Run box that opens:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

Hit the Enter key to run the command.

A file named Hosts will appear on your screen. In it, find where it writes “Localhost” and check if there are some other IP addresses under it. If your computer is hacked, chances are that there will be a bunch of IPs as is demonstrated in the image below:

Please, write to us in the comments below this post if you find any lines under your “Localhost” so we can advise you on what to do in case you have really been hacked.

In your Windows Start Menu, search for Network Connections and open them. Then, look at the instructions in the images below and repeat the steps from 1 to 4 as they are shown:

    1. Tap on the Network Adapter that is currently in use and right-click it. Choose  Properties
    2. In Properties, find the Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP), highlight it and click  Properties.
    3. Make sure that the DNS line is set to Obtain DNS server automatically and click on Advanced
    4. Select the DNS tab and delete everything that is written in the field. Then click OK.

Now, it is time to remove Yourmetshop from your browsers. Please note that browser hijackers like this one may affect all the browsers in your system, thus, to ensure that they are removed completely, you need to apply the instructions in step 5 for all your browsing apps.

NOTE: We are demonstrating the instructions in Google Chrome, but if you are using Firefox and IE (or Edge) or some other browser, you can do the same in it as well.

First, go to your Desktop and find the shortcut icon of the browser. Right-click on it and select Properties from the menu that opens.

Once you enter in Properties, click on the Shortcut tab as it is demonstrated on the image below, and where it says Target, remove everything that is written after .exe.

      Remove Yourmetshop from Internet Explorer:

If you are an Internet Explorer user, launch the browser and head for its gear icon   . Click it and choose Manage Add-ons from the menu.

Yourmetshop might have added some entries in the Add-ons section. Try to find them and select Disable.

Next, go back to but select Internet Options this time. See if the homepage URL has been changed to something else and if it is, change it to a URL of your preference. Select Apply.

     Remove Yourmetshop from Firefox:

For Mozilla Firefox browser, launch it and click     Once the menu opens, go to Add-ons and select the Extensions tab. See the extensions that are listed there and Remove the ones that seem to have anything to do with Yourmetshop.

    Remove Yourmetshop from Chrome:

Next, close the Chrome browser and go to the following directory:

     C:/Users/!!!!USER NAME!!!!/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data.

Find the folder that is called “Default”:

Highlight it and right-click on it. Select Rename and set the new name of the folder to Backup Default. After that Restart Chrome.

In this final step, you will need to find and delete the files linked to Yourmetshop in your Registry Editor. The Registry Editor has a lot of sensitive system settings, thus, when you are dealing with it, make sure that you are very careful with what you are changing and removing.

To open it, type Regedit in the windows search field. Select the regedit.exe and press Enter to run it

When it opens, use the CTRL and F key combination to open the Find dialog box. In the empty text field, type Yourmetshop (the exact name of the virus). Then,  click on the Find Next button. If there are files found with that name, delete them. Repeat the search process until no more files with the Yourmetshop name are found.

After that, go manually to these directories in the Registry Editor:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software.
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Run
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Main

Once you go to each of the directories, look for folders that are named with some random or odd names (randomly-generated letters, numbers, and symbols, unusually long names, etc.) and delete those folders. However, be very careful about what you delete, as any mistakes may lead to serious system corruption.

If you have questions about anything in this guide, we will be glad to answer them if you leave us a comment below this post. If Yourmetshop is still present on your computer after you complete the steps in the guide, we recommend that you use the powerful anti-virus tool, the link of which you can find above in the article.
