Type Task Manager in the search field below the Start Menu, open the first app and have a look at the Processes tab. Start by right-clicking the icon of the main browser, accessing the Properties section, and going to the Shortcut tab. There, erase any letters or numbers that may be written in the Target field after “.exe“.

Following that, launch that browser, select the menu icon (should be in the top-left or top-right corner depending on the specific browser) and open the Extensions (or Add-ons) section. Chrome users would first need to select the More Tools side-menu to get the Extensions option.

In the Extensions page, look for anything unfamiliar or suspicious. Also look for extensions that you haven’t installed yourself. If you find any items that may be unwanted, first Disable them and only them click their Remove buttons to delete them.

Now go to the Settings section from the browser menu, and find and click the settings section labelled Privacy and Security (or something similar to that).
