How to Uninstall the OnrymSpeedup Virus?

To remove OnrymSpeedup from Windows, users should try to clean their browsers by deleting any rogue add-ons that may be present there.

1. Open the main browsing program in the system, click its menu, and go to the Add-ons/Extensions settings.
2. Once you get there, look through the items listed on that page, seeking ones that seem unwanted to you or ones that you are unfamiliar with.
3. If you think one or more of the extensions shouldn’t be present in the browser, disable them and then delete them.
4. To remove OnrymSpeedup for good, you must clean all other browsers in the system (even those that seem unaffected).

However, if the unwanted software has made other changes in the system, you may need to delve deeper and find all of its data and settings in the computer and remove them before you fully get rid of the hijacker.  Step 1

The first step is to click the Start Menu, type Programs and Features, and click the first item that appears in the results. Next, in the window that opens, look at the items in the programs list and try to find any suspicious entries added (installed) right before OnrymSpeedup first started bothering you. If you find such an item, click on it, then select Uninstall (like shown in the image), and follow whatever uninstallation steps appear on your screen. Note: Make sure that when going through the uninstallation process you opt out of any options that offer you to keep on your PC anything related to the program you are currently uninstalling.

 

Step 2

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

The next thing that must be done is for you to press Ctrl, Shift, and Esc from the keyboard and open Processes in the Task Manager. Then look for any resource-intensive processes that have odd or suspicious names and use Google (or another trusted search engine) to search for information about those suspicious processes.

If you find reports posted on reliable research sites and forums that suggest that the process(es) in question may be linked to the OnrymSpeedup hijacker or to another rogue app, go to the process in your Task Manager, right-click it, access its File Location folder, and scan all the files you see there with the next free online scanner:

In case any of the files you tested with our scanner are found to be potentially malicious, quit the process they come from by right-clicking it and selecting End Process, and then delete its entire file location folder.

If deleting the folder is not possible at the moment, delete as many of its files as you can and go to the following steps. Upon completing all other instructions from the guide, return to the file location folder and try to remove it again – by that point, you shouldn’t have any problems doing that.

Note: In case you didn’t detect any malware in the location folder, but there was reliable information online that suggests the suspicious process in your task Manager is unwanted, it’s still best to quit it

Step 3 It is important to be in Safe Mode during the remainder of this guide in case you weren’t able to quit all hijacker processes in the previous step. While in Safe Mode, Windows won’t allow any hijacker processes to be automatically launched in the background of the computer.

Step 4 Use the Winkey + R combination in order to evoke Run and then paste the next file location in its search field:

• notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

Press the Enter key to open that file and when it appears on your screen, see if there are IPs listed at the bottom of the text (after the Localhost line) – if anything is written there (strange IP addresses and program rules), this might mean that the hijacker has modified your Hosts file. We will be able to tell you if that’s the case once we have a look at the exact IPs that are placed at the bottom of your Hosts file. Therefore, we advise you to send them to us in the comments, and we will tell you if anything needs to be done about them after we take a look at your comment. Go back to Run, type in it msconfig, press Enter, and click the Startup section in the System Configuration window. Then uncheck any items there that may be connected to the hijacker or that may otherwise be unwanted and click on OK. For a third time use Run, this time typing ncpa.cpl in it and pressing the Enter key again. In the newly-opened window, right-click the icon that represents the network your PC is currently connected to (the one without an X next to its icon) and go to Properties. In the Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) item and click the next Properties button. In the next window check the Obtain an IP address automatically option of it isn’t already enabled and click on Advanced. Open the DNS tab, delete any IPs that may be shown in the list there, and then click OK on every opened window.

Step 5 Warning!: Only delete items from the Registry if you are certain that they are from OnrymSpeedup or from another unwanted software. If you are uncertain about anything, first consult our team through the comments section before you take any action!

Go to your Start Menu, type regedit, click the first item, and select Yes when a permission is required.

When you get to the Registry Editor tool, press Ctrl and F to evoke the search box and type in it OnrymSpeedup. Click Find Next and delete the first item that gets found (if the search finds anything). After that, do another search, delete the next item, and keep repeating this for as long as there are items to be deleted.

When the search for OnrymSpeedup stops yielding results, go to the next three directories from the sidebar to the left:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Random Directory. 
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main

When you get to each of them, search in them for sub-folders with unusually long names and/or ones that seem to consist of sequences of random characters. If you come across any such sub-folders, delete them.

Step 6 Finally, you should once more go to each of your browsers and make sure that they are clean from anything that may be related to OnrymSpeedup. Start by right-clicking the main browser’s icon, going to Properties, and selecting the Shortcut tab. In it, take a look at what’s written in the Target field – if in it there’s anything written past “.exe“, it must be deleted. Once you are done here, click OK and then proceed to start the browser itself. In it, click the main browser menu (the icon for it should be in the top-left or the top-right corner). From the menu, go to Extensions/Add-ons. If you are in Chrome, go to More Tools and then select Extensions from the sub-menu. In the Extensions page, look for items that could be causing problems in the browser as well as ones that you simply don’t use or need and delete any such entries. If you are having problem with deleting a given extension, try disabling it first and then attempt to delete it again.

Next, open the browser menu again and go to its Settings/Options page.

Find the and select the Privacy and Security section (or anything labelled similarly) and select the Clear Browsing Data option. For Microsoft Edge users, the option you should be looking for instead is labelled Choose what to clear.

In the Clear Browsing Data window, make sure there is a checkmark in each box except the one for the user passwords and other sign-in data and then click Clear Now/Clear Data to launch the action. Wait patiently for the process to be over without quitting the browser.
