Magaskosh
Magaskosh is a ransomware infection that cybercriminals use to scare web users into sending them money. The victims of Magaskosh are typically greeted by a threatening ransom message on their screen that asks them to transfer some money in exchange for obtaining the decryption key for their encrypted files.
Our “How to remove” team has dedicated this article to help you and other users in need to manage this infection safely and quickly and remove it from their system. To do so, you are advised to follow the steps in the removal guide that you will find below carefully. There you will find manual instructions, a professional Magaskosh removal tool and some file-recovery suggestions that provide a workaround to the ransom payment. Although we cannot guarantee you that if you follow our steps all things will be back to normal, we believe they may be helpful to you, at least, to clean your computer from the Ransomware’s traces.
The Magaskosh virus
The Magaskosh virus is a malicious infection that could keep you from having access to your most valuable digital information. It may be difficult to remove the Magaskosh virus as this may often require professional software assistance.
Blackmail has always been a preferred way for online and offline crooks to make quick cash. Digital technology opens up new avenues for hackers to bully web users and Ransomware is one of the tools that online criminals use for that. They create threats like Magaskosh to encrypt valuable information stored on a given Computer and to restrict the owner of access to it. Magaskosh, in particular, uses a special file encryption algorithm to “secure” user data and make it inaccessible. The Ransomware victims usually have to pay for a decryption key to access their information again but that key is in the hands of the hackers. The ransom amount may vary a lot and the payment may be required immediately. Therefore, a lot of people that have been attacked want to try all that they can to find an alternative way of decrypting their files without sending the money.
The Magaskosh file encryption
The Magaskosh file encryption is a complex, extremely encoding algorithm that is very hard to decipher. Users who want to release their files from the Magaskosh file encryption can only do that by using the appropriate decryption key which is kept in secret by anonymous cybercriminals.
Usually, you will discover a ransom note on your computer right after the file encryption process has completed. This note will contain information about the files that have been encrypted and instructions for paying the ransom. But dealing with the hackers that stand behind the Ransomware is a bad idea. In fact, if the victims enter into negotiations with the criminals, they are exposed to many risks. The important thing is that the victims are not given any guarantees that if they pay, they will really obtain the decryption key. Some of the people who decide to transfer money for a decryption key never hear from the hackers again. There are also instances in which the hackers send a decryption key that does not work. Therefore, it is best to remove the infection by alternative techniques and restore the files, without giving the hackers your money.

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.
Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.
Hold the Start Key and R – copy + paste the following and click OK:
notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts
A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:
If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.
Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:
Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.
- Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

Search for the ransomware in your registries and delete the entries. Be extremely careful – you can damage your system if you delete entries not related to the ransomware.
