Uplucarioon is a relatively harmless program of the browser hijacker category. Uplucarioon can infect your favorite browser and spam it with various online ads while you’re browsing the web.

Typically, hijackers can affect all popular browsing programs such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge and others. And what they do is they integrate with the browser and administer certain changes to its settings, hence the name that this software type has earned for itself. These changes may include a newly set browser homepage, or a changed default search engine. Furthermore, browser hijackers like Uplucarioon often also install a new toolbar in your browser and you may be able to see one or more new plug-ins or add-ons as well. And all of this is topped off with a hoard of banners, popups, box messages and other online ads parading across your screen as you try to go about your everyday tasks in your browsing program. Oh and you’ve without doubt also come to notice the sudden and unexpected page redirects that your browser seems to have started initiating all on its own. That, too, is a direct effect of Uplucarioon.

The bad news is that as long as this hijacker is part of your system you will not be able to stop the endless flow of ads on your screen. No popup blockers will work if the source of all the popups is an integral part of your system. You will also not be able to change your homepage and default search engine to the preferred ones either.

But the good news is that all of this goes away once you remove Uplucarioon from your PC. You can accomplish this with the help of a few relatively simple steps, and these are thoroughly described in the removal guide we have published below.

The Uplucarioon Virus

Browser hijackers like the Uplucarioon virus typically operate on the basis of Pay Per Click and similar remuneration schemes. What this means is that they generate income for their developers based on the number of times you (or any affected user) interact with the displayed ads. That should explain the aggressiveness with which they tend to bombard your screen.

This is also where certain less-obvious activities stem from. For instances, programs like Uplucarioon often engage in tracking the browsing patterns of affected users. They collect this data and use it to optimize the ads on your screen, making them more relevant to each individual user. And there’s nothing particularly wrong with this practice as it is. But it’s very wrong if you haven’t knowingly consented to it and may prompt you to want to delete this hijacker immediately.

That’s not the only problem, though. Software like Uplucarioon, Vip Captcha Live, Agafurretor.com although fairly benign in and of itself, may potentially expose your computer to viruses and malware. As a result of all the page redirects and constant exposure to unsolicited web content, there is a risk of landing on insecure web locations and contracting viruses like Trojans, ransomware and others.

SUMMARY:

Remove Uplucarioon Virus

To try and remove Uplucarioon quickly you can try this:

1. Go to your browser’s settings and select More Tools (or Add-ons, depending on your browser).
2. Then click on the Extensions tab.
3. Look for the Uplucarioon extension (as well as any other unfamiliar ones).
4. Remove Uplucarioon by clicking on the Trash Bin icon next to its name.
5. Confirm and get rid of Uplucarioon and any other suspicious items.

Reboot in Safe Mode (use this guide if you don’t know how to do it).

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab (the “Details” Tab on Win 8 and 10). Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders. 

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections. 

Hold together the Start Key and R. Type appwiz.cpl –> OK.

You are now in the Control Panel. Look for suspicious entries. Uninstall it/them.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Open the start menu and search for Network Connections (On Windows 10 you just write it after clicking the Windows button), press enter.

1. Right-click on the Network Adapter you are using —> Properties —> Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP), click  Properties.
2. The DNS line should be set to Obtain DNS server automatically. If it is not, set it yourself.
3. Click on Advanced —> the DNS tab. Remove everything here (if there is something) —> OK.

• After you complete this step, the threat will be gone from your browsers. Finish the next step as well or it may reappear on a system reboot.

Right click on the browser’s shortcut —> Properties.

NOTE: We are showing Google Chrome, but you can do this for Firefox and IE (or Edge).

Properties —–> Shortcut. In Target, remove everything after .exe.

  Remove Uplucarioon from Internet Explorer:

Open IE, click   —–> Manage Add-ons.

Find the threat —> Disable. Go to  —–> Internet Options —> change the URL to whatever you use (if hijacked) —> Apply.

 Remove Uplucarioon from Firefox:

Open Firefox, click    ——-> Add-ons —-> Extensions.

Remove Uplucarioon from Chrome:

Close Chrome. Navigate to:

 C:/Users/!!!!USER NAME!!!!/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data. There is a Folder called “Default” inside:

Rename it to Backup Default. Restart Chrome.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press Enter.

Inside, press CTRL and F together and type the threat’s Name. Right click and delete any entries you find with a similar name. If they don’t show up this way, go manually to these directories and delete/uninstall them:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory. It could be any one of them – ask us if you can’t discern which ones are malicious.
  HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
  HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random
