FormsApp

FormsApp is a type of a Trojan horse computer threat that can cause various types of harm and can be extremely difficult to remove once it enters a given computer. FormsApp mostly spreads with the help of misleading and harmless-looking files, software installers, links, ads, pop-ups, email attachments and similar commonly encountered web content.

Threats like the FormsApp virus may be used to provide their criminal creators with remote control over the infected machine

The principle of operation of most Trojans is based on disguise and stealth. In most cases, such threats are disguised as a useful program, a free tool or an interesting file but when launched, they secretly activate some harmful code in the system, which starts to operate and mess with the installed software and the data, stored on the computer. Threats like FormsApp and Altruistics may be used to provide their criminal creators with remote control over the infected machine as well as for theft of sensitive information, system corruption, espionage and much more. The attackers basically use the Trojan to compromise the computer so that they can use it for their own criminal purposes.

FormsApp is one of the newest Trojan horse infections and its harmful abilities are quite advanced. If not removed in time, this threat can lead to various issues in the infected system. For instance, it may trigger sudden restarts and shutdowns of the computer or launch unfamiliar applications in the background. It may also make the system operate slower than usual or it may exploit the system resources.

But this is not the worst that can happen if you have such malware on your PC. FormsApp may also secretly modify different files and components in the OS or corrupt and replace them. The worst is that this software can create security holes in the system and can help other malware, such as ransomware or spyware, to sneak inside the computer and further damage it. That’s why we suggest you do not lose time and use the instructions in the removal guide below and remove this nasty Trojan horse.

How to protect your computer from Trojans

If you want to prevent a close encounter with nasty infections such as FormsApp as well as with other very dangerous computer viruses, you should take the necessary measures to protect your system. This is best done with the help of a reliable security program because, unfortunately, Trojan horses rarely show any visible symptoms that would give them away and you may not be able to detect them in time because of that.

What’s more, these threats try to hide deep in the system and oftentimes may mimic some important system files or processes so as to trick you about their purpose and their nature. That’s why you must make sure that you have a good antivirus program that is updated to the latest virus databases in order to effectively detect the most dangerous and insidious infections. If the antivirus that protects your PC in real time could not detect or remove FormsApp , then you may need the help of special scanner tools such as the one on this page. This is because sometimes such threats may block the default security tool that’s on your computer in an attempt to remain undetected.

Once you’ve entered Safe Mode, go to the Start menu, type “Task Manager” into the search box, and then click the Task Manager app to get started.

Check what is currently running on the system by clicking on the Processes tab that you can find at the top. Any procedures that appear to be dangerous must be checked carefully. If the files turn out to be harmful, immediately end the process related to them and delete the files and their folders from the File Location.

    Step3

After that, open the Control Panel that you visited in the beginning of the guide and check the installed programs once again for anything suspicious.

You can use Windows + R to open a Run box, type appwiz.cpl there, and then click OK to save time.

Extensively check the list of applications for any new or questionable applications that might have re-appeared after you have removed them. If you detect something potentially unwanted or dangerous, select it and click the Uninstall button at the top of the window.

Depending on the apps you wish to uninstall, you may get a notice similar to the one below when you click Uninstall. If this occurs, be careful to choose NO and uninstall any questionable apps from the system completely.

    Step4

The Trojan Horse may be activated as soon as the computer is switched on, especially if the malware has added dangerous components to the system’s startup programs list. To view what’s on the Startup tab, you’ll need to open System Configuration by typing msconfig in the Start menu search field and pressing Enter. Next, you need to open t the Startup tab:

    msconfig_opt

If you detect startup items that you can’t connect to any of your trusted and reputable programs, research them online and remove their checkmarks in case you discover enough information that they are hazardous. Save your changes by clicking OK at the bottom of the window.

The next thing that you need to do is to see whether anything has changed in the Hosts file on your computer.

The Hosts file could be easily accessed by using the Windows and R key combination.  This will open a Run box where you will need to paste the following line:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

After clicking OK, you’ll be able to open the Hosts file and see whether there are any unusual IP addresses listed under Localhost:

    hosts_opt (1)

You can send us a copy of the IP addresses that are disturbing you in the comments below this article. We will check them and let you know what to do in case we find something dangerous in them.

    Step5

Trojan Horse threats are well-known for leaving a trail of registry entries that make it difficult for users to eradicate the infection entirely. The Trojan will keep reinstalling and reappearing on your machine unless you delete these entries.

Therefore, in this final step, you should remove all of FormsApp’s helper entries from the registry if you want it to get rid of it completely.

Start the Registry Editor by typing Regedit in the Start menu search bar and pressing Enter. Next, press CTRL and F together on your keyboard to open a Find box, where you may search for the Trojan by its name. Click the Find Next button and if there are any matching entries that appear in the results, they should be eliminated.

Manually searching the following directories for newly added files and folders with random names is another technique to look for FormsApp-related files and remove them:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory.
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random

It’s important to keep in mind that removing registry entries that aren’t connected to the Trojan might do serious damage to your computer. As a result, to ensure that FormsApp is completely removed from your computer without causing harm to your OS, we recommend that you use one of the removal tools provided in this article. Scannable files may be checked for viruses for free with the online virus scanner. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments below, and our team will do its best to assist you.
