FunctionLoginput

FunctionLoginput is a browser hijacker that has been reported to infect Mac users. FunctionLoginput can integrate with your default Chrome, Safari or Firefox browser and introduce certain changes to your browsing experience.

The FunctionLoginput virus on Mac

Typically, the very first symptom that gives away the presence of a browser hijacker is the numerous online ads that appear to come up out of nowhere all of a sudden. At some point users find themselves randomly being bombarded with popups, banners, box messages and various other forms of advertisements. And normally that is also what scares users into believing they may have been infected with a virus.

Luckily, however, FunctionLoginput is not a virus. That doesn’t mean you should have to tolerate it on your computer either, though. And that is why below we’ve prepared a detailed removal guide to help you get rid of FunctionLoginput in just a few simple steps.

FunctionLoginput for Mac

FunctionLoginput for Mac is really no different than the Windows alternatives. FunctionLoginput for Mac will annoy you about just as much, and will also change your browser homepage and search engine – same as the Windows hijackers. This, along with the generation of myriads of online ads on your screen, is all geared towards promoting certain products/services/websites. And in turn, driving traffic towards these sponsored pages via redirects and other such tactics is what earns the developers of programs like FunctionLoginput revenue.

As a rule, browser hijackers operate based on Pay Per Click remuneration schemes. And this goes to show that software of this type is more of an aggressive marketing tool than anything else.

What is FunctionLoginput?

FunctionLoginput is, again, not a malicious program. But FunctionLoginput can still have some rather unpleasant effects on your computer and your overall browsing experience, as well. Obviously, there are the many ads you have to deal with on the one hand. But what you don’t see is that the hijacker runs processes in the background that can be decreasing your machine’s RAM and CPU.

Furthermore, programs like FunctionLoginput or Yahoo Search have been known to collect browsing-related data from users and send it back to their creators. Then this information can be compiled and sold to third parties for marketing purposes or simply just used to tailor the shown ads to each and every user personally. Either way, it’s not something that the vast majority of affected users knowingly agree on.

The Function Loginput App

The Function Loginput app is typically distributed with the help of other programs that are normally available for free download. This can be any form of useful software that you would be willing to seek out and download yourself. But what you may not know is that a program like this may have added components to its installer – such as the Function Loginput app.

So, instead of having to remove the browser hijacker later, you can actually prevent its installation altogether. And that can be easily done by running the advanced/custom setup of any new program you’re about to install.

Remove FunctionLoginput from Mac

To successfully remove FunctionLoginput from Mac, you must start with the uninstallation of the application that has most likely introduced the browser hijacker into the system. Here are the steps for that:

  1. Navigate to Finder >>> Applications in order to review all apps are presently installed on your Mac.
  2. Check for recently installed apps that could be responsible for the FunctionLoginput infection.
  3. If you find such apps, drag them to the Trash bin on the Desktop to remove them. Eventually, that will also remove FunctionLoginput from your Mac.
  4. Once you are done, empty the Trash by right-clicking on it to finalize the uninstallation.
  5. Restart your Mac, launch Safari, and use it for a while to see if there are any traces of FunctionLoginput in it.

If the hijacker still shows symptoms of its presence on your system, then complete the advanced steps in the removal guide shown below.

Step 1: Search for FunctionLoginput processes in the system

*Source of claim SH can remove it.

Navigate to Finder >>> Applications >>> Utilities. Open the Activity Monitor to see all currently running processes on your Mac.

Search for hijacker-related processes in the Activity Monitor’s list but keep in mind that they may not have the FunctionLoginput name. Therefore, pay attention to processes that use high system resources (RAM, CPU, battery) and have unusual names.

If a particular process grabs your attention, and you are sure that it is linked to FunctionLoginput, click that process, selecting the button (top-left), and click on the Quit button in the dialog box that pops up.

Attention! If you are not sure whether a given process might be related to the hijacker and should be quitted, look for information on the Internet by researching the name of the process. This should help you decide if it is related to a legitimate app or your macOS (you should NOT quit it if this is the case), or it belongs to a potentially unwanted program.

Step 2: Find and delete the FunctionLoginput files

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

    • use the scanner to scan any suspicious files and decide if they need to be deleted.
    • finally,  visit the ~/Library/Application Support folder and check it for sub-folders that may be created by FunctionLoginput.
    • scan the files in these sub-folders to see if they contain malware.

Step 3: Check for reinstalled apps

Go to Finder>>>Applications once again and check if any of the apps that you removed at the start of this article have returned to the Applications folder. If you find any, uninstall them again by dragging them to the Trash.

If you were able to successfully find and delete all FunctionLoginput-related files in Step 2, the unwanted hijacker-carrying apps should not be able to reinstall on the computer after you delete them.

Step 4: Uninstall FunctionLoginput from Safari

To uninstall FunctionLoginput from Safari, you need head to the browser’s extensions list and delete any extensions that FunctionLoginput may have added without your approval.

    1. Open Safari, go to its main menu (top right) and select Preferences.
    2. Click on the Extensions icon and search for unwanted and unfamiliar extensions in the list.
    3. If you find any, uninstall them without hesitation by selecting them and clicking on the Uninstall option.
    4. Once you are done, reboot your Mac, open the Safari Extensions page once again, and if the extensions you have just removed are truly gone.

Next, even if there are no more signs of FunctionLoginput in Safari, you need to restore its settings and delete any temporary browser data that could be related to the browser hijacker.

For that, in the Preferences menu select Privacy, and there click on Remove All Website Data. This option will delete all website cookies and cached data that has been saved in the browser.  Confirm the action by clicking on Remove Now.

After that, again in Preferences go to the General icon.
