Xiaoan
Xiaoan is an ad-spamming app categorized as a browser hijacker that gets installed on Android devices. The purpose of Xiaoan is mostly promotional – it seeks to advertise certain sites and products – however, it may also potentially expose your device to different hazards.
If you have encountered pop-ups, page-redirects, or banners on your Android smartphone or tablet that are generated/powered by Xiaoan and if the settings of your Chrome or Firefox browser (or the generic “Internet” browser) of your device have been altered without your approval, this means you have this app installed without knowing it.
The Xiaoan App
Usually, people don’t realize when or how the Xiaoan app gets installed because this software is rarely distributed as a standalone application. Instead, the Xiaoan app is usually added to bundles that are used for getting it installed onto more devices without the informed permission of their users.
This largely defines the way this hijacker can be removed – in order to uninstall it, you’d have to get rid of the app that brought it to your device. App that carry hijackers are usually ones downloaded from outside the Google Play Store because such third-party download sources usually have lower security standards and are more likely to have sketchy applications uploaded to them.
It is important to remove Xiaoan because you could never know what sites it may link you to and what hazards may await you there. Trojans, Spyware, and Ransomware are only a few examples of the threats you may get targeted by if a hijacker is allowed to remain on your device.

Whether you use the default “Internet” App for browsing or a different browser like Chrome you need to go to:
Settings/More/Application Manager/All
Locate the Browser/App in question and tap on it.
Now the method is effectively the same for users using both “Internet” and Chrome/Other Browsers, yet for more clarity we have provided instructions for both:
For “Internet” Browser Users:
Tap the Force Stop button.
Now tap the Clear Data and Clear Cache Buttons.
For Google Chrome Users:
Click on Force Stop.
Then click on Clear Data and Clear Cache.
Restart your Browser. It might be a good idea to Reboot your Android device, just in case.
- Important!
If you are still seeing Ads in your browser, it is likely they are generated by the websites you visit and there is nothing you can do about it.
However, if you are seeing Adverts outside of your internet browser, then one of your installed Apps contains the problematic Adware. In this case you need to take a look at this guide.
