Go go Tech

Go go Tech is a rogue software that can enforce unwanted changes to popular browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and more. The main goal of Go go.tech is to use the targeted browser as an ad-displaying platform through which certain sites, products, and services can be promoted.

The goal of the Go-go.tech virus is to bring revenue to its creators on the basis of remuneration models such as Pay-Per-Click or Pay-Per-View

Rogue software components like Go-go.tech are typically referred to as browser hijackers or as PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). Though they are often regarded as a form of malware, they significantly differ, in both function and purpose, from more typical and more dangerous forms of malware, such as Trojan Horses, Spyware, Rootkits, Ransomware, etc.

The Go go Tech Virus

The Go go Tech Virus is a moderately dangerous browser hijacker mainly due to the risk of it getting you exposed to online scams and disguised malware downloads. It is dangerous to interact with content generated by Go go Tech because its ads and page redirects may be linked to rogue sites.

Browser hijackers are typically regarded as less problematic and dangerous than more serious malware threats like Spyware, Trojans, or Ransomware. However, due to the presence of Go go tech on your computer and the constant stream of questionable and potentially-unsafe ads that it spams you with, the chances of getting your system infected with one of those aforementioned forms of malware go up significantly. Additionally, phishing scam websites often rely on hijackers like Go go Tech to reach more users, so there’s also the chance of unknowingly getting exposed to web scams that could lead to financial loss as well as other problems. All in all, the only viable solution in such a case is to delete the rogue app from your PC.

The goal of a typical hijacker is to bring revenue to its creators on the basis of remuneration models such as Pay-Per-Click or Pay-Per-View. Basically, a hijacker like Go go tech would generally be programmed to aggressively page-redirect you to the content it’s supposed to promote and also show you pop-up ads, banners, and other similar forms of advertisement in order to get you to visit a certain site, and view a certain product or service.

In line with their main purpose, most hijackers are not programmed to cause any type of harm go the systems they get installed on. They do, however, tend to make some changes to the system and browser settings to be more effective at their main goal of advertising. Those changes range from a replaced browser search engine and homepage to new entries in the System Registry, Services, and the Startup Items list. Most of the time, those changes get introduced without the user’s knowledge or informed consent and are generally seen as unwanted.

The Go go Tech Search

Go go Tech Search is a form of rogue software that is typically not harmful by itself but could potentially expose your system to more dangerous software. Go go Tech is known for hijacking user browsers, taking over their settings, and spamming them with aggressive advertisements.

If you’ve recently started seeing obstructive ads appear in your browser even while you are visiting sites that normally don’t have such ads and/or if certain changes have been introduced to your browser without your permission (changed starting page or search engine, for example), then it’s very likely that you currently have a browser hijacker such as Go go.tech in your browser. This sort of software is known for aggressively trying to promote different products, sites, or services in the users’ browsers with no regard for the negative effects that such an activity may have on the user. With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the only viable action when encountered with Go-go.tech or another similar app is to ensure that the rogue software gets removed as soon as possible.

On paper, the goal and functions of Go-go.tech may not seem like a serious threat to one’s virtual security and privacy, or to the system of the computer. However, in practice, there are several issues associated with browser hijackers that shouldn’t be overlooked.

First is the obvious problem of getting interrupted by the ads and having to work with a browser that has been changed in ways you are likely not comfortable with. Depending on the individual, this may or may not be a significant problem.

A more serious issue, however, is the type of content that a hijacker like Go go.tech may promote in one’s browser. There’s oftentimes no control over what content gets advertised, meaning that it’s perfectly possible that some ads displayed by a hijacker could be linked to rogue webpages that contain phishing elements or downloadable malware disguised as legitimate programs distributed for free.

The third main problem are the aforementioned changes to the system and the browser. Though typically not harmful by themselves, they could potentially weaken the security of the entire system and provide a gateway into it for more dangerous forms of malware, including Trojans, Ransomware, and Spyware.

Considering all those factors, the only viable solution is to clean your system from Go-go.tech and any files and settings related to it. The guide you will find below will provide you with instructions on how you can do this manually, and there you will also find a powerful anti-malware tool that you can use to automatically get rid of Go-go.tech and its related data and settings.

How to remove Go go Tech

Browser hijackers such as Go go Tech redirect users to sponsored websites and display advertisements on the browser’s screen. Often, the source of these advertisements and redirects are hijacker-controlled browser extensions. When these extensions are deleted, some people claim that everything return to normal. If you want to see if that helps, you might try removing the Go-go.tech extensions from your browser using the following easy steps:

  • Navigate to the hijacked browser’s main menu by clicking on the hijacked browser’s main menu button (most commonly found top right).
  • From the list of options, select Morel Tools (or Add-ons).
  • Then, look for a tab labeled Extensions (it should normally be on the left on most browsers).
  • Select the Extensions tab and search for extensions that appear to be associated with Go go Tech or that were added without your consent.
  • Then, click the Trash bin or Remove button next to the extension you want to remove. This will permanently delete it from the browser.
  • After that, restart your browser and check to see if the issues with Go-go.tech persist.

If the browser hijacker has not been completely removed, and you continue to receive irritating pop-up adverts and auto-redirects, then we recommend you to complete the detailed steps in the removal guide below.

Step1

To assist you in completing this guide correctly, you should restart your computer in Safe Mode before proceeding with the steps below. If you require assistance with this, please see this link.

However, make sure that you bookmark the removal guide’s page before rebooting the computer. This way, when the computer restarts, you can return to it and complete all the steps right from where you left off.

Step2

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

When the machine is in Safe Mode, simultaneously press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC. The Task Manager will appear on the screen immediately. Then, once inside, click the “Processes” Tab (on Windows 8 and Windows 10, the “Details” Tab) and check for processes that are suspicious and may be connected to Go go.tech and its annoying ad-generating and page-redirecting activity.

Bear in mind, however, that it is not always required for the hijacker’s processes to share the same name. That is why you should be on the lookout for additional processes with strange names or unusually high RAM and CPU utilization. Additionally, you can right-click on a suspected process and select the Open File Location option. This will open the directory containing the files associated with that process.

Scan the files associated with that process with a reputable online virus scanner to determine if they contain any malware or potentially unwanted code. The free online virus scanner given below will immediately identify any signs of Go-go.tech.

Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users.
This file is not matched with any known malware in the database. You can either do a full real-time scan of the file or skip it to upload a new file. Doing a full scan with 64 antivirus programs can take up to 3-4 minutes per file.

Delete any files or folders that have been recognized as potentially harmful. If that is not possible, first right-click on the process that is running and select End Process to stop it, then retry to delete the marked files.

    Step3

On the keyboard, simultaneously press the Start and R keys. This immediately will open the Run dialog box on the screen. Type appwiz.cpl in the box and click OK to execute the program.

    appwiz

A Control Panel window will appear. This is where you can view all of the apps that are currently installed on your computer. You must search for fraudulent applications that may be connected to Go-go.tech or may have installed it on your computer. If you discover such applications, uninstall them to prevent the browser hijacker from reinstalling itself on the system.

Once everything is complete, you can exit the Control Panel window and navigate to the Windows search field.

In it, type “msconfig” and click on System Configuration, as this is what you want to start. Select the Startup tab and check for any Go-go.tech-related startup items in the list of startup items. If you find any, remove the checkmark from their checkboxes to disable them. Then click OK to apply your changes.

    msconfig_opt

    Step4

Press the Start and R keys together once more to bring up a new Run window. Paste the following line into the Run window and click OK:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

This should open the “hosts” file on the screen. Look for the term “Localhost” in the file and note the IP addresses at the bottom. Keep track of any unusual IP addresses that appear under “Localhost,” such as those in the example image below. Then, copy the IP addresses that appear to be problematic and leave a comment in the section below this guide. We will take a look and let you know whether they represent a risk to your computer or not.

    hosts_opt (1)

The next thing you need to do is go to Network Connections (search for it in the Windows search field) and see whether Go go Tech has made any changes to your DNS settings.

    • To begin, choose the Network Adapter that is currently in use and then right-click on it to bring up the options.
    • From the pop-up menu, select Properties.
    • When the Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP) option is selected with your cursor, click the Properties button to open a new Properties window.
    • Ensure that the option to Obtain DNS server addresses automatically is checked in the new window, and then click Advanced.
    • When in the Advanced window, select the DNS tab and delete any rogue DNSs that you find there.
    • Click OK to save your changes before closing the window.

    Step5

You cannot declare your system to be clean until you have scanned the registry for Go-go.tech-related entries. This is precisely what you will do in this step.

Enter Regedit in the Windows search field. Then, using the Find functionality (press CTRL and F together), type the browser hijacker’s name. Then click Find Next. If any results appear, right-click and erase them. Then, repeat the search until there are no more results to be discovered.

When you’re finished, manually navigate to these locations in the registry and delete anything that appears out of the ordinary:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory.
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random

Attention! Keep in mind that if you delete or modify entries in the Registry that belong to other apps, and not the hijacker, your computer may become unstable. For this reason, you should avoid deleting Registry entries unless you are certain they are associated with the browser hijacker you want to remove.

    Step6

The critical step is to delete any traces of Go go Tech from the system locations specified above on your computer. This, however, may not be sufficient to completely remove the browser hijacker from your machine. Additionally, you should examine all the web browsers installed on your computer and delete any changes done without your permission.

To begin, navigate to the browser’s shortcut icon and right-click it to access the quick menu. Following that, click on Properties.

    browser-hijacker-taskbar-properties

Select the Shortcut tab under Properties and then, once there, locate the Target box and delete everything after.exe. Your changes will be saved when you click the OK button.
