Next, enter the infected computer in Safe Mode (follow the steps from the link) in order to be able to easily spot the malicious entries that Download.iso might have added in the system.

When the computer restarts, open the Start menu and type msconfig in the search field. Open the result and click on the startup tab:

Carefully check the Startup Items list for entries that have “Unknown” Manufacturer or other entries that look suspicious, and you believe could be linked to the Trojan. Uncheck the suspicious-looking entries and click OK.

Next, start the Task Manager by press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC. When the window opens,  go to the Processes Tab and filter the processes thereby CPU and Memory usage. Also, look at the names of the processes and if you detect that a given entry has an odd name or uses a lot more system resources than normal, right-click it and select Open File Location.

You will see a number of files in that location. To determine if the selected process is dangerous, you need to scan the files in that location with a powerful online virus scanner like the one below:

Commonly, Trojans like Download.iso may act as a backdoor that can invite other malware, such as ransomware, inside the computer. In addition to that, such threats my make unauthorized changes in various system files, including the Hosts file, where malicious IP addresses may be added.

To check for unauthorized alternations in your computer, copy the line below in the Start menu search bar and press Enter:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

As soon as you do that, the Hosts file of your computer will open. Find Localhost in the text and check if some strange-looking IP addresses, (like the virus creator IPs on the image below) have been added without your knowledge in the file:

    hosts_opt (1)

If you see nothing disturbing, just close the file. If, however, there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” copy them and leave us a comment in the comments section below this guide.

Many sophisticated Trojan Horse infections tend to add malicious files in the system’s registry. If such files exist and are not removed, the malware may also not be fully removed from the computer. Therefore, it is very important that you clean the registry from any dangerous file, related to Download.iso that you can find.

Attention! Interacting with registry files may have a serious impact on the overall stability and performance of your OS. Please use a professional removal tool to avoid involuntary system damage if you are not sure what needs to be deleted.

If you still prefer the manual method, and you know what you are doing, type Regedit in the windows search field and press Enter.

Next, inside the Registry Editor, press CTRL and F and write the name of the Trojan in the Find dialog box.

Start a registry search by clicking on Find Next. If any entries matching that name are found, they need to be deleted. If nothing is found during the search, use the left panel to navigate to the following registry locations and check each one of them for recently added and suspicious-looking files and folders:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory.
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random

If you detect anything unusual, delete it.

If you run into trouble during any of the steps in this guide, or you find out that Download.iso does not want to get removed with the manual instructions, please don’t leave the job unfinished with Trojan on the system.  Instead, download the anti-virus program we recommend and use it to remove the persistent infection or use our free online virus scanner to check every file that looks suspicious.
