Optimal Promo

Optimal Promo is a page-redirecting Mac extension that is aimed at popularizing certain sites from within your browser, regardless of whether you are okay with that. Optimal Promo will ceaselessly keep opening new tabs or redirecting your current one to the sites that it’s programmed to promote.

The biggest issue with this, aside from how irritating it could be, is the fact that some of the sites that this app is supposed to popularize might not be what one would refer to as safe. While the goal of this rogue browser extension isn’t related to damaging your computer or exposing it to external harm, the latter could still end up being an indirect result of the advertising activities conducted within your browser.

Once this app attaches itself to Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or another browser, it might replace the search engine and the homepage, and then it might also put some new buttons in the toolbar. This, too, happens without the user’s informed permission. What’s even worse, however, is that, once the changes in the browser have been made, you aren’t given the option to reverse them. Basically, if the undesirable extension is still in your browser, you won’t be allowed to bring back your previous homepage or search engine, or remove the newly added buttons from your toolbar.

Optimal Promo for Mac

Optimal Promo for Mac is a potentially unsafe advertising app that keeps spamming Mac browsers with different forms of advertisements. Optimal Promo for Mac also changes some settings in the browser in order to further boost the amount of advertising materials it’s able to generate.

Generally, the advisable thing to do if faced with a page-redirecting app such as this one is to uninstall it immediately. We understand, however, that doing so might oftentimes turn out to be more difficult than it sounds. Therefore, we’ve made sure to offer all of our readers a free removal guide that those of you who need to remove Optimal Promo can use in order to uninstall this unpleasant application. The removal guide is available further down the current page.

What is Optimal Promo?

Optimal Promo is a rogue Mac browser add-on that experts define as a browser hijacker because of its ability to take over certain browser settings. Optimal Promo is regarded as an unwanted piece of software because of its unpredictable and sometimes potentially unsafe page redirects and adverts.

Unfortunately, if this app is kept in the browser for too long, it’s even possible that the computer may become a target for dangerous threats from the Internet, including Spyware, phishing viruses, Trojans, and Ransomware.

The OptimalPromo app

Step1

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

The first thing you need to do is to Quit Safari (if it is opened). If you have trouble closing it normally, you may need to Force Quit Safari:

You can choose the Apple menu and click on Force Quit.

Alternatively, you can simultaneously press (the Command key situated next to the space bar), Option (the key right next to it) and Escape (the key located at the upper left corner of your keyboard).

If you have done it right a dialog box titled Force Quit Applications will open up.

In this new dialog window select Safari, then press the Force Quit button, then confirm with Force Quit again.

Close the dialog box/window.

Step2

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

To remove parasite on your own, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. If you were to do this, you need to be extremely careful, because you may damage your system.

If you want to avoid the risk, we recommend downloading SpyHunter
a professional malware removal tool.

First, Force Quit Safari again.

Now if you are using a Wi-Fi connection turn it off by selecting Wi-Fi off in you Mac’s Menu. If you are using a cable internet (Ethernet connection), disconnect the Ethernet cable.

Step4

Re-Launch Safari but don’t forget to press and hold the Shift button while doing it, so no previous pages can be opened up. Now, Click on Preferences in the Safari menu,

Preferences in Safari

and then again on the Extensions tab,

Select and Uninstall any extensions that you don’t recognize by clicking on the Uninstall button. If you are not sure and don’t want to take any risks you can safely uninstall all extensions, none are required for normal system operation.
Step5

The threat has likely infected all of your browsers. The instructions below need to be applied for all browsers you are using.

Again select Preferences in the Safari Menu, but this time click on the Privacy tab,
