Pushnotstudio

Pushnotstudio is a type of potentially unwanted application (PUA) that belongs to the browser-hijacking category due to its ability to take control over the user’s browser. Pushnotstudio is specifically designed to employ different web-marketing techniques in order to earn Pay-Per-Click and Pay-Per-View revenue.

The Pushnotstudio virus is responsible for making unauthorized changes to the default browser

Pushnotstudio tends to generate aggressive popups and banners in users’ browsing apps such as Chrome and Firefox. Pushnotstudio is a browser hijacker and is often also responsible for making unauthorized changes to the default browser (homepage or search engine replacements, installation of new toolbars, page redirects, etc.).

Luckily, these are not virus-inflicted changes to be afraid of but a rather aggressive online advertising method, implemented by applications like Pushnotstudio and Bingo Captcha Point Top, which ensures that certain sponsored tools, toolbars, search engines or websites get exposure and to users during their regular web surfing.

Such pieces of software are much easier to deal with compared to the nasty viruses and security threats (Trojans, ransomware, spyware, etc.) that we often discuss on this website. Most web users should be able to handle hijackers without professional assistance if they follow certain removal steps. In fact, a removal guide like the one below might be more than enough to help you take care of Pushnotstudio. It can show you how to locate and remove the undesired changes that the hijacker may have made in your browser as well as their related files.

If you are not sure how to follow the manual instructions, however, you can always use a specialized removal tool to scan your system and uninstall Pushnotstudio automatically. For optimal results, it is a good idea to use a combination of both in order to effectively deal with the undesired software and bring your favorite browser’s regular settings back to normal.

Does Pushnotstudio aim to harm the PC?

When a browser hijacker operates in the system, it typically makes some changes to the default browser without asking for approval. This software is basically programmed to operate this way. It serves the purpose of its creators, which is to generate revenue from Pay-Per-Click ads, paid promotions and sponsored page redirects.

In order to do that more effectively, a hijacker application such as Pushnotstudio can replace your preferred homepage with another one, install a sponsored search engine or set some promoted toolbar which may start to automatically redirect you to specific predefined web pages, ads, offers, paid links and promotional banners. That’s why it is not surprising that the presence of the browser hijackers in the system is often regarded as potentially unwanted and why most users seek fast and effective ways to have it uninstalled.

Many of them actually fear that such software may expose them to potentially hazardous web content such as misleading links, fake ads and infected web pages that could be transmitters of viruses as nasty as Trojans or ransomware. This, in fact, is a reasonable concern because there is no way to have control over all the pop-ups and automatic page redirects that the hijacker may generate and, in theory, nothing can stop a well-camouflaged infection from sneaking in the ads streaming on your screen. That’s why it is wiser to avoid interaction with the randomly popping-up messages and use the instructions in the removal guide or a specialized removal tool to remove Pushnotstudio and uninstall its changes from your browser.

Remove Pushnotstudio Virus

A common way to quickly remove the browser hijacker is to remove the Pushnotstudio-related browser extensions from your PC. This can be done in the following way:

  • Open the browser that Pushnotstudio has taken over.
  • Find and click the main menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • In the menu, click More Tools/Add-ons.
  • Then, choose the Extensions sub-menu or option. Once you click it, you should see a list of all the extensions and add-ons that the browser has.
  • If you see an extension or an add-on that is clearly linked to Pushnotstudio and is most likely making your online browsing experience worse, click on it and then choose the option that says “Remove/Trash Bin” or “Delete.” This should remove the add-on from the browser.
  • Do the same thing for any other suspicious extensions or add-ons that you find, and do it again.
  • After you finish, restart the browser and use it for a while. Ideally, Pushnotstudio should not cause any more trouble.

To remove Pushnotstudio from your system, follow the more detailed instructions in the guide below.

If you want to get rid of Pushnotstudio quickly and easily, you need to do some preparation. You’ll need to save this page with the removal instructions as a bookmark in your browser so that you can have access to it anytime you need. You’ll also need to restart your computer in Safe Mode, which only runs the most important apps and processes on your computer.

In order to avoid any confusion, and reboot the computer in Safe Mode successfully, we suggest that you read through the detailed instructions in this link. After you complete them, return to this page and follow the steps below.

WARNING! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

The first step in getting rid of Pushnotstudio is to find and kill the browser hijacker’s background processes. The easiest way to do this is to open the Windows Task Manager by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ESC. Then click on the Processes Tab (the “Details” Tab on Win 8 and 10) and look for suspicious process that you want to stop.

Take your time looking through the list to see if there are any processes that are linked to Pushnotstudio that should be ended. These might be processes with weird names that use a lot of system resources without a particular reason. This isn’t always the case, though. That’s why, to find out if a process that draws your attention is actually hijacker-related, you need to do an internet search to collect more information about it and scan its files with a good malware scanner. If you right-click on the process and choose Open File Location, you can get to its files.

Then, use a professional malware detection software to check the files in that directory. You can find a link to a free virus scanner below that will do the job for you and save you time:

Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users.
This file is not matched with any known malware in the database. You can either do a full real-time scan of the file or skip it to upload a new file. Doing a full scan with 64 antivirus programs can take up to 3-4 minutes per file.

Each file will be scanned with up to 64 antivirus programs to ensure maximum accuracy
This scanner is based on VirusTotal's API. By submitting data to it, you agree to their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and to the sharing of your sample submission with the security community. Please do not submit files with personal information if you do not want them to be shared.

If the scan shows that the files are dangerous, stop the process from which they came. You can do that in the Task Manager, where you can right-click on a risky process and choose the End Process/End Process Tree option. In addition, it is important to remove any harmful files and folders from the location where they are stored.

Attention! Ending legitimate processes that are not linked to the hijacker could affect your other programs and your computer’s general stability.

The most likely way for Pushnotstudio to get into your computer is through a new program that you have recently added. That’s why, if you think that such a piece of software is to blame for installing the browser hijacker on your computer, you need to find and remove it as soon as you can. In the end, when you do this, Pushnotstudio will be permanently deleted and can’t be reinstalled even if the machine is restarted again.

Press the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard at the same time to get to the apps that are already on your computer. A window that says “Run” will show up. Enter appwiz.cpl and then click OK:

Look for any programs that appear questionable and, if you find any, do a search on the internet for information about them and, if you think they are the cause, remove them.

Once that is done, type “msconfig” in the Windows search bar and press Enter. Then, go to the Startup tab and click on it. Pushnotstudio may have added some startup items to the Startup Items list. You need to deactivate (uncheck) any of them there. When you’re done, click OK.

The Hosts file on your computer may be changed as a result of having Pushnotstudio in your computer. To check for modifications, press the Windows and R keys at the same time, copy and paste the following line in the Run window that appears on the screen:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

After you copy the line, hit Enter and look for Localhost in the Hosts file. If you see any suspicious IP addresses added under Localhost, copy them and put them in the comments below. You can ask our “How to remove” team to look at the IP addresses and let you know if they need to be removed.

A browser hijacker, Pushnotstudio, may also make changes to the DNS settings. For this reason, you need to find Network Connections in the Windows search field. Then click on it and follow these steps:

    • Right-click on the Network Adapter that is currently running and choose Properties.
    • In Properties, scroll down to find and Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP) from the list, then select it.
    • At the bottom of the window, click on the Properties button to open the Properties window.
    • Select Obtain DNS server address automatically and click the Advanced option in the bottom right.
    • A window called Advanced TCP/IP Settings will open up and give you access to the DNS tab.
    • On the DNS tab, click the Remove button to get rid of everything in the text box.
    • When you’re done, click the OK to confirm that you’re done with your changes.

When a user gets Pushnotstudio on their system, they have to deal with the browser hijacker’s changes to their browser. This is one of the most frustrating things about this type of software. The good news it that in this step, we will show you how to undo these changes and the extensions and add-ons that keep messing with your online experience.

Important! You should follow these steps for each browser that is already installed on your computer.

To start, right-click on your browser’s shortcut icon and choose Properties as shown in the picture:

Next, select the Shortcut tab. In it, delete everything that has been put after .exe in the Target area and when finished, click OK to save your changes.

      Remove Pushnotstudio from Internet Explorer:

Click on the gear icon upper right corner of the browser. Then choose Manage Add-ons from the menu that slides down.

Remove any suspicious-looking or potentially harmful add-ons that are linked to Pushnotstudio. Then, click the gear icon again and choose Internet Options from the menu. Check the homepage settings and if you notice some sponsored URL, replace the homepage address with a URL from a trusted source and apply the changes.

     Remove Pushnotstudio from Firefox:

Firefox users should go to the top right of their screen and click the main menu icon (three vertical lines). Then, on the left, click Add-ons, and then click the Extensions tab on the right side. Select Remove for any suspicious-looking or potentially unwanted extensions. This will delete them. If they don’t want to get removed, Disable them first, then click the Remove button again.

    Remove Pushnotstudio from Chrome:

Close Google Chrome and go to this location on your computer:

     C:/Users/!!!!USER NAME!!!!/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data.

Find the “Default” folder and rename it Backup Default, then restart the browser.

To get rid of everything that Pushnotstudio might have added to your Registry, you would have to go to the Registry Editor and search it for changes. You can do that with the help of the following steps:

    • In the Windows search field (the search bar in the Start menu), type regedit, then press Enter to start the Registry Editor.

    • Open a Find window by pressing the CTRL and F keyboard keys at the same time.

    • After that, in the Find window, type the name of the hijacker and click Find Next. You should wait for the search function to look through the Registry for files with that name and then delete them. Keep searching until there are no more results.

As a last step, to make sure there are no files left behind, manually go to the folders below:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory.
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random

Remove or uninstall anything in each of the folders that you think is linked to the browser hijacker.

Attention! Removing or uninstalling system and application items from the Registry puts your computer at risk of getting corrupted by accident, which could affect how the operating system works on a day-to-day basis. The best way to avoid this is to carefully research each entry or use expert removal tools that can safely remove bad Registry entries. It’s also possible to run a scan on specific files that you want to check with our free online virus scanner.
