Ads by HappySale Virus

Ads by HappySale is a type of virus categorized to the Adware family. It is characterized by the large amounts of unwanted Ads that is will create each time you start your browser. Adware viruses are generally considered to be the least dangerous of all viruses, because the Ads they generate do not cause any harm to your computer. However, that is not to say they are harmless as they serve as a back door for other, more potent threats. Fortunately this can only happen if you interact with the Ads, so as long as you simply close or ignore them your PC will be OK.

What are the dangers that lurk behind those shiny ads

First and foremost you should realize that all content of Ads generated by Ads by HappySale is fraudulent. The sites to which the hyperlinks will take you are not actually reseller sites – they are copy-cats. They might even look exactly like the real sites, or the domain name might be almost the say. Ultimately though – they are fake.

Throwing money at these fake sites and their offers would be foolish. You’ll never get what you paid for simply because they don’t have it. Instead you will either get nothing or worse – a cracked worthless copy or a virus infected installer.

Sometimes Ads might try to fool you in other ways

Not all Ads are about best offers, great discounts or free downloads. There are some that are of a much trickier sort. What they do is they first tell you there is some kind of problem with your computer – the worse sounding the better. The goal is to rush you into a sense of urgency or even panic in order to neuter your rationality. You will then be offered to download and install a solution – which will be nothing else but virus and potentially a very dangerous one. We’ve listed several examples of this scheme below, but this list is far from complete.

  1. Some kind of banner or new page will pop-up and it will be riddled with errors. They will tell you that a missing plug-in has to be installed.
  2. A variant of the above, but this time it will be pop-ups that cover every media player or picture on all sites opened. This is especially dangerous as it’s easy to confuse with a real problem.
  3. A warning from a free online scanner – it will claim that several viruses have been discovered on your PC and you have to download and install it before it can delete them.
  4. A pop-up might spring out of some fake program icon of popular and well-known program like Flash or Java. It will say you need to update the program immediately, because it has become outdated.

Note that these tricks are not exclusive to Ads by HappySale. You might see them in many sites, but their goal is always the same. Watch out!
