This page aims to help you remove Skvtb Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any Skvtb Ransomware file can be recovered.

Ransomware viruses have been around for the better part of three decades now, but it wasn’t until the last few years that the boom in this malware category we witness today really began. Security experts today estimate an exponential growth, with millions of new variants being released each year and those numbers have a tendency to just keep getting bigger and bigger. One of the newest variants in particular is Skvtb Ransomware and we have been receiving quite a few reports about it from our readers. Just like the majority of other ransomware viruses out there, Skvtb Ransomware encrypts the files on the machines of its victims and then proceeds to leave ransom demands in exchange for having those files decrypted. All in all, it’s a highly unpleasant experience, where your personal property is violated, and on top of that you can also end up losing some of your most valued data – maybe even for good. So what’s there to do in case of a ransomware infection like this? First of all, it’s paramount that you remove it and we can show you exactly how to do that with the help of our special removal guide. It also contains steps on how to restore your files from system backups, but before you reach for those, please take a few minutes the read the following information first.

How to successfully combat ransomware viruses

Ransomware is considered to be among the most harmful and dangerous virus types in existence. And there are a number of weighty reasons for this. One of them is the fact that once they make their way into your system, they happen to be incredibly difficult to apprehend. For one, antivirus programs, for the most part, can’t even detect them due to the encryption processes that this malware runs. Encryption in itself is not a harmful process and, much on contrary, actually serves as a means to shield data from unwanted eyes. It’s what we use to protect our financial details and other sensitive information on the internet, for example. In addition, ransomware like Skvtb Ransomware rarely, if ever, exhibits any symptoms. Very often the encryption runs silently, without a sign. In certain rare cases, depending on the amount of data stored, as well as the processing power of the PC, its performance may be compromised, leading to a significant slowdown. However, this won’t be enough to prompt most users to check their Task Manager for any suspicious processes.

Reboot in Safe Mode (use this guide if you don’t know how to do it).

We get asked this a lot, so we are putting it here: Removing parasite manually may take hours and damage your system in the process. We recommend downloading SpyHunter to see if it can detect parasite files for you.

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC at the same time and go to the Processes Tab. Try to determine which processes are dangerous.

Right click on each of them and select Open File Location. Then scan the files with our free online virus scanner:

Drag and Drop Files Here to Scan
Maximum file size: 128MB.

This scanner is free and will always remain free for our website's users. You can find its full-page version at:

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.

After you open their folder, end the processes that are infected, then delete their folders.

Note: If you are sure something is part of the infection – delete it, even if the scanner doesn’t flag it. No anti-virus program can detect all infections.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

hosts_opt (1)

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Go in Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.

  • Please note that ransomware may even include a fake Manufacturer name to its process. Make sure you check out every process here is legitimate.

To remove parasite on your own, you may have to meddle with system files and registries. If you were to do this, you need to be extremely careful, because you may damage your system.

If you want to avoid the risk, we recommend downloading SpyHunter
a professional malware removal tool.

  1. %AppData%
  2. %LocalAppData%
  3. %ProgramData%
  4. %WinDir%
  5. %Temp%

How to Decrypt Skvtb Ransomware files

We have a comprehensive (and daily updated) guide on how to decrypt your files. Check it out here.

If the guide doesn’t help, download the anti-virus program we recommended or try our free online virus scanner. Also, you can always ask us in the comments for help!

Another reason why malicious programs like Skvtb Ransomware are able to get away with what they do is because the hackers behind them demand they be paid in Bitcoin (or other cryptocurrencies). And cryptocurrencies, that ironically also use encryption as a means to shield the senders and recipients of funds from prying eyes (or anyone, really). So, this ensures that no legal authorities or law enforcement can track the cybercriminals and bring them to justice. And with security experts pretty much also left trailing behind in terms of advancement, ransomware has been thriving. And only us users have the power to stop it.

How, you might ask? What can we do to possibly counter one of the most dangerous types of malware out there? First of all, you can start by refusing to pay the demanded ransom. There’s no guarantee that that will grant you access to your files, anyway. For one, the hackers behind Skvtb Ransomware might not even send you a decryption key, which is often also the case for many victims out there. In addition, a received decryption key doesn’t necessarily mean that you will successfully recover your data either.

What we would recommend is, first of all, getting rid of Skvtb Ransomware, as this will prevent any further possible damage. After that you can use the instructions in the removal guide to recover your files from system backups, if you don’t have backups stored on a separate drive or a cloud. Speaking of which, you would do good to starts creating backups of your files from now on so you will always have them somewhere safe in case of trouble like this. Unfortunately, though, recovery from system backups may not always be possible and success will vary from case to case. But you can also refer to our list of decryptor tools, or contact a specialist of your choice.
