Xxmm

Xxmm is a very harmful computer infection that belongs to the Trojan family and has recently been reported to our “How to remove” team. Xxmm can easily attack your PC without any visible symptoms and hide deep in the system for an indefinite period of time. As most advanced Trojan-based infections, Xxmm can open a backdoor in your system and make it an easy target for other viruses.

The Xxmm malware may slow your machine down and block some legitimate programs and processes as well as launch some malicious ones

The infection can be used to secretly download more threats like spyware, rootkits, worms, ransomware, etc. on your computer by connecting it to remote servers. What is even worse, Xxmm may have the ability to disable your existing security software and make your system even more vulnerable to external and internal attacks without your knowledge.

The Xxmm Malware

The Xxmm malware can also be used to steal personal and sensitive information such as passwords, login credentials and online accounts along with your financial details. The goal of the Xxmm malware is usually to share your secret details with hackers who can use them later for various criminal activities like theft, fraud and blackmailing.

Apart from this, Xxmm may slow your machine down and block some legitimate programs and processes as well as launch some malicious ones instead and use your system’s resources for them. As a result, your PC may start to experience issues like sluggishness, unresponsiveness, freezing and sudden crashes.

You definitely mustn’t wait for any of that to happen in order to remove the Trojan. In fact, if you have any suspicion that such an infection might be hiding somewhere inside your system, we highly recommend you run a full scan with a professional removal tool or a reliable antivirus program. Unfortunately, since most Trojan-based infections, including Xxmm and Altruistics , don’t show any particular symptoms of their presence, it may be impossible to detect them without the help of trusted security software. As far as the removal is concerned, you may find the instructions below and the anti-malware tool linked in them useful in the removal of the malicious virus.

How Xxmm spreads and what you need to be on the lookout for

Xxmm is a sophisticated Trojan horse infection that may get inside your machine through various deceptive tricks. It can get downloaded on your computer bundled with cracked software or different free third-party programs that you download from unreliable web sources. It can also get spread through malicious emails and infected attachments, spam, fake ads, misleading links, malicious websites, adult sites or sites with obscene content, torrent sites, peer to peer files sharing, drive-by downloads and many more.

Once it nests itself inside your machine, Xxmm can secretly initiate various harmful activities in the system’s background. It may completely ruin your computer’s speed and performance and even damage the entire OS in such a way that you may lose all the data that you store on it. That’s why we advise you to immediately remove the infection from your computer in order to avoid any serious damage. For fast detection, it is best to try the professional Xxmm removal tool in the guide below to see if it could find the Trojan and deal with it automatically.

Hold together the Start Key and R. Type appwiz.cpl –> OK.

You are now in the Control Panel. Look for suspicious entries. Uninstall it/them. If you see a screen like this when you click Uninstall, choose NO:

Type msconfig in the search field and hit enter. A window will pop-up:

Startup —> Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer or otherwise look suspicious.

    • Remember this step – if you have reason to believe a bigger threat (like ransomware) is on your PC, check everything here.

Hold the Start Key and R –  copy + paste the following and click OK:

    notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts

A new file will open. If you are hacked, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. Look at the image below:

If there are suspicious IPs below “Localhost” – write to us in the comments.

Type Regedit in the windows search field and press Enter.

Once inside, press CTRL and F together and type the virus’s Name. Right click and delete any entries you find with a similar name. If they don’t show up this way, go manually to these directories and delete/uninstall them:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—–Random Directory. It could be any one of them – ask us if you can’t discern which ones are malicious.
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—-Windows—CurrentVersion—Run– Random
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER—-Software—Microsoft—Internet Explorer—-Main—- Random

If the guide doesn’t help, download the anti-virus program we recommended or try our free online virus scanner. Also, you can always ask us in the comments for help!
