Chrome_display is a piece of software that enables auto-redirects of user searches to different sponsored websites that are loaded with pop-up advertisements. Users that have Chrome_display on their device complain that their browser configurations have be modified by this software without their approval.

Chrome Display

Typically, the majority of people who face a browser hijacker for the first time mistake it for a virus or malware (similar to Ransomware, Trojans, etc.) and cannot figure out how to remove it and why it is making changes to their browser without being authorized to do so. Chrome_display, for instance, causes confusion and disturbance because it normally activates a new search engine and changes the homepage address to a different one that loads a particular website. The program may also add some components such as toolbars, page-redirect buttons and quick access menus to the browser that only clutter the appearance and generate various sponsored pop-up ads, banners and links when clicked on. These homepage, search engine and toolbar changes are only made with the idea to facilitate the ad-generating and page-redirecting activities of the browser hijacker and to ensure that every time the user opens their web browser, they get encouraged to click on some sponsored links and web offers.

What is Chrome_display?

In case that you are getting redirected to sites you do not want to visit and your browser’s screen (be it Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) is constantly bombarded with hundreds of pop-up advertisements, banners, colorful boxes and other aggressive commercials, it’s quite likely that you have Chrome_display in your system. Chrome_display is a browser hijacker that is usually used for marketing purposes and is not malicious. Yet, many users fail to understand exactly what this program is doing on their computer and seek to uninstall it as soon as possible.

The Chrome_display Virus

The main challenge that users face when dealing with the Chrome_display Virus is in regards to removing these changes and uninstalling the hijacker that imposes them because, in most cases, their attempts to get rid of the intrusive software fail. This is because browser hijackers like the Chrome_display Virus typically have components that help them to reinstall themselves in the system again and again, and if those components are not detected and carefully removed, the web browser will be constantly taken over by aggressive online commercials.

If using Firefox:

  • Open Firefox
  • Select the three parallel lines menu and go to Add-ons.
  • Find the unwanted add-on and delete it from the browser – if there is more than one unwanted extension, remove all of them.
  • Go to the browser menu again, select Options, and then click on Home from the sidebar to the left.

How to Delete Chrome_display

  2. Look for the Chrome_display process
  3. Select it and click on End task
  4. Open the file location to delete Chrome_display
  • Access the Task Manager by pressing together the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys and then selecting Task Manager.
  • Open Processes and there try to find a process with the name of the unwanted software. If you find it, select it with the right button of the mouse and click on the Open File Location option.
  • If you don’t see a “Chrome_display” process in the Task Manager, look for another suspicious process with an unusual name. It is likely that the unwanted process would be using lots of RAM and CPU so pay attention to the number of resources each process is using.
  • Tip: If you think you have singled out the unwanted process but are not sure, it’s always a good idea to search for information about it on the Internet – this should give you a general idea if the process is a legitimate one from a regular program or from your OS or if it is indeed likely linked to the adware.
  • If you find another suspicious process, open its File Location too.
  • Once in the File Location folder for the suspicious process, start testing all of the files that are stored there by dragging them to our free online scanner available below.

Browser hijackers are not malicious pieces of software and they are unlikely to cause any long-lasting issues on the computer. However, oftentimes ransomware, spyware and other viruses may find their way inside the system thanks to the randomly displayed ads and web links that the hijacker can display on your screen. That’s why it is typically not advisable to keep such software for long and to let it expose you to questionable web offers, redirect links and sketchy banners.
