Rsenginesvc
Rsenginesvc is a potentially unwanted Windows service that is commonly found on PCs with the RAV Antivirus software installed. While this service may not pose a direct threat to the security of your system and data, it is still important to remove it to ensure the overall safety of your computer. Potentially unwanted services can consume system resources and impact performance, leading to a sluggish and inefficient computing experience. Additionally, the presence of such services may indicate vulnerabilities or potential risks within the system, making it crucial to address and eliminate them promptly. By taking the necessary steps to remove Rsenginesvc, you can maintain a secure and optimized computing environment for your personal or professional needs.
Rs Engine Svc
If you have observed a sudden spike in memory and CPU usage on your computer, and upon investigation using the Task Manager, you discovered that the Rs Engine Svc process is the culprit, it is advisable to examine your system for the presence of a potentially unwanted program (PUP) called RAV Antivirus. This specific software is frequently associated with the potentially unwanted Rs Engine Svc process. PUPs can consume significant system resources and negatively impact your computer’s performance and responsiveness. By identifying and addressing the root cause, such as removing the RAV Antivirus software, you can remove the load on your system’s resources and ensure a smoother computing experience. It is essential to take proactive measures to maintain the optimal functionality and security of your computer.
What is Rsenginesvc?
Rsenginesvc is not a virus, but a process initiated by the RAV Antivirus potentially unwanted program (PUP). RAV Antivirus is technically a security software, and there have been no reported instances of it being malicious. However, it is arguable how beneficial is this tool for your system. At best, it is an outdated, poorly optimized, and essentially useless application that adds no value to your computer experience. Instead, it needlessly consumes system resources and causes inconvenience with its presence. Removing both Rsenginesvc and RAV Antivirus is recommended to optimize your system’s performance and eliminate unnecessary resource usage, otherwise, this can contribute to system slowdowns and performance issues.
Rsenginesvc.exe
Rsenginesvc.exe is the executable file associated with the Rsenginesvc service. While it’s usually harmless, it can sometimes cause issues. For instance, it might use up too much CPU or memory resources, slowing down your computer. In some cases, it could even be a disguised form of malware. It is important to understand that manually terminating the Rsenginesvc.exe process through the Task Manager is unlikely to provide a long-term solution. Therefore, if your intention is to completely and permanently eliminate rsenginesvc, it is crucial to ensure the removal of any components associated with RAV Antivirus that are currently present on your system. This may involve uninstalling the software through the Control Panel, using a reputable antivirus program to scan and remove any remnants, or employing specialized removal tools recommended by security experts.

Full rsenginesvc removal guide
Step 1: Uninstalling RAV Antivirus
First, you need to click in the search bar next to the Start Menu or simply open the start menu, type Apps & Features, and click on the first result. Scroll down a bit to see a list of the programs installed on your PC. Try to find RAV Antivirus in that list, click on the program’s entry, and then click Uninstall. Complete whatever steps and follow whatever prompts show up on your screen to uninstall the program, but remember to carefully read everything so that you don’t accidentally allow anything related to that program to be allowed to remain on your computer.
After the uninstallation, search the list for any items named rsenginesvc or for other questionable and potentially unwanted programs and uninstall them too.
Step 2: Quitting the rsenginesvc process
Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to evoke the Task Manager, open Processes, and search for the rsenginesvc process. When you find it right-click it, and click Open file location.
Without closing the location folder, switch back to the Task Manager, select the rsenginesvc process, click End Task and confirm the action.
Now go to the location folder that you opened and delete everything that’s in it. After that, try to delete the folder itself. If you are unable to delete the folder and/or any of the items contained in it, continue with the guide. After you’ve performed all other steps, try to delete the location folder of rsenginesvc once again.
Next, check the Task Manager for other sketchy processes that may be related to rsenginesvc or RAV Antivirus and do the same thing with them (quit them and delete their file location folders). If you are not sure if a given process is linked to the unwanted software, use the malware scanner included below to test the files in the file location folder of that process.
Step 3: Safe Mode
It is strongly recommended to continue with the next steps while in Safe Mode – this will help prevent rsenginesvc or any other undesirable processes from starting again. Here is our guide on How to boot into Safe Mode on a Windows PC.
Step 4: Cleaning the system settings
For this step, you must find and delete/disable any system settings linked to the RAV Antivirus PUP and the unwanted rsenginesvc process. To do that, type the names of the following system settings sections as they are shown below, go to those settings, and perform the instructions we’ve provided for them:
Regedit – First, confirm that you want to open the Registry Editor app, and then, when it opens, press Ctrl + F to evoke its search box. In the search box, type RAV Antivirus, press Enter, and delete whatever item (if any) gets found. Perform the search again to see if there are other related items and in this way delete everything related to rsenginesvc. Once you’ve done that, perform a search for rsenginesvc and delete all items that come up as search results. Also do the same with these search phrases: “Reason Security Engine”, “RAV”, and “Reason Security”.
Once you’ve deleted all items that may be related to rsenginesvc, manually go to these three Registry Editor locations using the left panel and check them for any items with odd-looking names that seem to comprise random letters and numbers (for example – “903ud09t0933909tg0fj09r30”). Should you notice anything like this, let us know down below in the comments, and we will inform you what to do next.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Random Directory.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main
Services (you can also try with “services.msc”) – In the Services window, look at the list of services and try to find anything named RAV Antivirus, RAV, Reason Security Engine, rsenginesvc, or anything similar. If you come across one or more such services, right-click them, go to Properties, set the Startup type to Disabled, and click OK. Do this for every service that may be related to RAV Antivirus or rsenginesvc.
Task Scheduler – Click the Task Scheduler folder in the top-left corner of the window and then loo through the list of scheduled tasks, searching for anything named RAV Antivirus, Reason Security Engine, rsenginesvc, or anything similar. If you find any task or tasks with such names, select them, press Delete, and confirm the deletion.
System Configuration – Go to the Startup tab. If you are on Windows 7, there you will see a list of startup items. If you are on a later Windows OS, you must first click Open Task Manager to see the list. In the Startup items list, look for RAV Antivirus, rsenginesvc, or Reason Security Engine entries and if you find any, disable them.
Step 5: Deleting leftover files
Completing steps 1-4 should be enough to rid you of the RAV Antivirus PUP and the rsenginesvc process, but since there may still be some remaining files related to them in several folders in your system, we recommend going there and cleaning those folders. First, however, type Folder Settings in the Start Menu, open the first item, go to View, and enable the Show hidden files, folders, and drives setting. Then press OK to save and apply the changes – this is done so that any hidden files related to the unwanted process become visible so that you’d be able to delete them.
Next, again using the Start Menu search, type the names of folders we’ve shown below (together with the “%” characters) and open them one by one. In each folder, you open, sort the files and subfolders in it by data, and then delete the most recent items – the ones created since the date RAV Antivirus was installed on your PC.
When you get to the %Temp% folder, press CTRL + A to select all of its contents and then press Del to delete them all – everything in that folder should be deleted.
- %LocalAppData%
- %ProgramData%
- %WinDir%
- %AppData%
- %Temp%
