The Reason Lab Application

The Reason Lab Application is a potentially unwanted software that is commonly installed via file bundles and without the user’s knowledge or informed consent. It’s commonly bundled with game emulators, such as MEmu, and many users also report getting it after installing the Cheat Engine debugger tool. The Reason Labs Application is technically an antivirus tool that is also sometimes known as RAV Endpoint Protection or the RAV Antivirus, and it’s developed by the legitimate ReasonLabs company. However, the way it’s normally distributed, along with its obstructive behavior, difficult removal, and the fact that it’s a severely outdated program, make this software undesirable.

What is Reasonlabs Application

The ReasonLabs Application is an outdated and low-quality security program that doesn’t help keep the system safe and instead bogs it down by using up large amounts of CPU and RAM. It’s also notoriously difficult to remove, requiring a full-scale system cleanup to get rid of everything related to it.

How to delete Reasonlabs

To delete ReasonLabs, you’ll first need to run its uninstaller, but then you must also track down all of its processes, leftover files, registry entries, and enforced system settings changes, and delete/revoke everything that the unwanted app has introduced into your PC.

The Reasonlabs Application virus

The good news is that, even though many people refer to this software as the “Reasonlabs Application virus”, it’s actually not a program that can be categorized as malware. Sure, it’s definitely an unwanted app, but that doesn’t mean it has the ability to harm anything on your computer. For this reason, if you notice that the Reason Lab Application has entered your system, this shouldn’t send you into panic mode.

Despite the program’s tendency to slow down the system by using up too much RAM and CPU and despite its “refusal” to get uninstalled, your system and data should be safe, as it isn’t really a “Reason Lab Application virus”. Of course, you still have plenty of other reasons to uninstall this program, and we’ll help you with that through our guide posted further down.

Reason Labs uninstall

One major complaint that users who’ve encountered this program have is that the Reason Labs uninstall process can be particularly confusing and frustrating. Typically, it’s not enough to simply go to your ‘Applications & Features’ settings and uninstall the program from there.

Firstly, many users report not even seeing an entry for the program in ‘Applications & Features’ as if it’s not even installed in the system. And if you manually navigate to its folder (the default directory is C:\Program Files\ReasonLabs) and run its uninstaller from there, this will likely still not get rid of everything.

Even after you’ve seemingly performed the Reason Labs uninstall, you may still notice processes in your Task Manager related to it. Examples of such processes are Reason Security Engine, rsEngineHelper.exe, rsEngineSvc.exe reason security sync service, reason security dns client service, and reason security synchronize service.

Trying to quit these processes and delete their file location folders will typically result in an error message that tells you that they are being used by another software, suggesting that there’s still something that needs to be removed.

For all these reasons, in order to fully get rid of the Reason Labs app, a systematic approach is required that lets you clean all system settings and locations.

What is ReasonLabs?

ReasonLabs is the company behind the Reasonlabs Application, also known as the RAV Endpoint Security antivirus. ReasonLabs is a legitimate company, but their products are subpar and there’s not much information about them coming from reputable sources.

The only review of a ReasonLabs product that we managed to find on a well-known and trusted site is this PCMag review that focuses on an older version of their main cybersecurity suite. And as can be seen from the review, the program is far from impressive.

Of course, this is about a product from six years ago, but the situation today doesn’t seem to be much different. The current Reasonlabs Application seems to only bog down the productivity of any PC it gets installed on without offering much if any value, all the while being frustratingly difficult to remove.

The Reasonlabs virus

Considering all that was said in this post thus far, you would be excused to refer to any of the products developed by this company as a “Reasonlabs virus”. Even if the software coming from ReasonLabs isn’t malicious, its presence in the system is unnecessary at best, and obstructive and frustrating at worst.

There are several ReasonLabs products that you may encounter that tend to be shipped together, so if you have one of them on your PC, you probably have the others too. We already mentioned the Reasonlabs Application (RAV Endpoint Protection), but there’s also a RAV VPN and the RAV Safer Web app, which can be just as annoying to have on your PC and just as difficult to remove.

And one of the most frustrating things about these products is that, even if neither of them is a “Reasonlabs Virus”, they can make you believe there’s an actual virus in your computer even when it’s perfectly safe. ReasonLabs software is infamous for its tendency to spam the user with false positive malware warnings. It’s even suspected that this is a way to promote the paid version of the ReasonLabs Application, since it can supposedly remove the detected (and likely non-existent) malware.

Step1 Uninstall the ReasonLabs application app and kill its processes

The first thing you must try to do is look for any sketchy installs on your computer and uninstall anything you think may come from the ReasonLabs application. After that, you’ll also need to get rid of any processes that may be related to the unwanted app by searching for them in the Task Manager.

Note that sometimes an app, especially a rogue one, may ask you to install something else or keep some of its data (such as settings files) on your PC – never agree to that when trying to delete a potentially rogue software. You need to make sure that everything is removed from your PC to get rid of the malware. Also, if you aren’t allowed to go through with the uninstallation, proceed with the guide, and try again after you’ve completed everything else.

  • Uninstalling the rogue app
  • Killing any rogue processes

Type Apps & Features in the Start Menu, open the first result, sort the list of apps by date, and look for suspicious recently installed entries.

Click on anything you think could be linked to the ReasonLabs application, then select uninstall, and follow the prompts to delete the app.

delete suspicious reasonlabs application apps

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, click More Details (if it’s not already clicked), and look for suspicious entries that may be linked to the ReasonLabs application.

If you come across a questionable process, right-click it, click Open File Location, scan the files with the free online malware scanner shown below, and then delete anything that gets flagged as a threat.

    Quit reasonlabs application processes

After that, if the rogue process is still visible in the Task Manager, right-click it again and select End Process.

Step2 Undo the ReasonLabs application changes made to different system settings

It’s possible that the ReasonLabs application has affected various parts of your system, making changes to their settings. This can enable the malware to stay on the computer or automatically reinstall itself after you’ve seemingly deleted it. Therefore, you need to check the following elements by going to the Start Menu, searching for specific system elements that may have been affected, and pressing Enter to open them and see if anything has been changed there without your approval. Then you must undo any unwanted changes made to these settings in the way shown below:

    • DNS
    • Hosts
    • Startup
    • Task
      Scheduler
    • Services
    • Registry

Type in Start Menu: View network connections

Right-click on your primary network, go to Properties, and do this:

Undo DNS changes made by reasonlabs application

    Type in Start Menu: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

    • I got a faster way… I think. open task manager (ctrl + shift + Esc) and scroll down till you see the reason labs application. do not end these processes yet. simply right click on the ReasonLabs application and go to file location. then after that end all processes of the ReasonLabs application and you can now uninstall the app. sometimes certain processes wont close so just try the one below it and it should work
