Vagrant will damage your computer

“Vagrant will damage your computer” is an aggressive site-promoting app that attaches itself to Mac browsers and spams ads and page redirects in them. Usually, apps like “Vagrant will damage your computer” are added inside other programs’ installers so that once users install the main program, they get the hijacker as well.

This app is labeled as unwanted and it’s best to remove it from your Safari browser as soon as you notice it is there. Otherwise, the constant spam with ads and site redirects may eventually get your Mac exposed to more problematic and harmful forms of software, including malicious viruses, Trojan horses, Spyware, or Ransomware programs.

Vagrant will damage your computer for Mac

“Vagrant will damage your computer” for Mac is a Safari, Chrome, and Firefox add-on application that seeks to fill the affected browser with intrusive ads and page redirects. “Vagrant will damage your computer” for Mac can also alter the settings of the homepage and the search engine tool that the browser uses by default.

Those changes are aimed at making the advertising actions of the unwanted app more effective. The new search engine settings would typically increase the number of advertised entries you get in the search results and the new homepage address would probably be the homepage of a site that the developers of this browser-hijacking tool are trying to popularize.

What is Vagrant will damage your computer?

“Vagrant will damage your computer” is an unwanted type of software that belongs to the so-called browser hijacker category. Browser hijackers like “Vagrant will damage your computer”, Search-alpha, “Cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified” tend to redirect the users’ browsers to unknown sites and also keep tabs on the history of the browser.

For the most part, a hijacker’s main goal would be to make money by getting you to interact with as many paid ads and site redirects as possible. It scans through your browsing history in order to figure out your likely interests and then show you ads that are more relevant to your supposed preferences. This means that the chances of you clicking on the ads increase and, in turn, the potential profit for the hijacker developers goes up as well.

The Vagrant will damage your computer app

The “Vagrant will damage your computer” app is a potentially unsafe piece of Mac software that gets added to the main browser and spams it with aggressive advertisements. The “Vagrant will damage your computer” app also makes certain changes in the browser’s settings, which may decrease the browser’s safety.

This is, in fact, the biggest problem with hijackers like “Vagrant will damage your computer”. Sure, they are irritating and obstructive but the thing that really makes them unwanted is the potential dangers they may expose you to. The new elements added to your browser may not be secure and this may potentially lead to malware attacks on your Mac. The ads that are shown on your screen may also be dangerous because not all of them may lead to safe online locations. Some of the sites promoted by hijacker apps may be filled with viruses, Ransomware, or Trojans and may try to trick you into downloading such malware on your computer. Therefore, even if the hijacker, in and of itself, is not capable of damaging your Mac, you still need to uninstall this app and remove anything that it may have added to your browser.

Remove “Vagrant will damage your computer” from Mac

The following instructions will allow you to remove “Vagrant will damage your computer” in two ways:

  • The manual instructions will allow you to remove it on your own by downloading 2 software suites which will show you the folders the threat is located in. Installing, scanning, and deleting everything will require 1-2 hours of your time, depending on your speed and the threat itself.
Note: If Vagrant has an in-built ability to restore itself on a restart, the manual steps will not prevent that. We recommend the automatic removal.
  •  Download SpyHunter for Mac (one of the apps used in the manual instructions), scan with it, and if you decide to use the program, it will likely require about 15-20 minutes. This, however, requires an active subscription for SpyHunter, which means either to use the trial version or purchase the software.

Removal instructions:
1. Download EtreCheck from the Appstore and scan for any Vagrant unsigned files. Delete them. (You can skip this step altogether and download and scan with Spyhunter instead if you don’t want to double-check things).
2. Download and install Spyhunter for Mac. Scan for any malicious files.
3. The app will show you which files are infected. Either use SpyHunter to delete them for you (the automatic removal) or do it manually, which means tracking down each detected location by yourself and deleting the file.
4. In most cases start with /private/var/root/Library/Application Support/Vagrant/Vagrant
5. In Finder press Shift+Command+G to open the Find window.
6. Search for the /var directory. Then proceed and look for the /root folder inside.
7. It will most likely be locked and you will need additional permissions to meddle with it.
8. Press command+I and scroll to sharing and permissions. Add your user name to permissions.
9. Now you should be able to access the /root folder and proceed and locate the /Library folder inside it. Proceed to do the same until you are inside the /Application Support folder.
10. It is possible that the folder you look for is hidden, if that is the case use command+shift+. to locate and find the file you want to delete.
11. Delete the Vagrant file.
12. If none of this helps, try the steps in this guide
